Tangerine Dream - Thief - Beach Scene (Recreated)

At first I wanted to fiddle with Solina sounds...
While playing some chords, It made me thing about Beach Scene (1981) ...
This song is part of my youth since it was played every night as a goodnight for a radio show I used to listen here in Montreal (CKMF).

No infos were available to recreate it but I found out that the chords were not from a Solina but from the Korg Poly-Ensemble.
So I gave a go to the Full Bucket PE CS plugin. Very remarkable!
I had a new project!

For the glockenspiel, I found a patch on Dexed but not the usual one found on the DX7. It's called G SPIEL . Maybe an early patch from the GS1 since the DX7 only came out two years later...?

At 1m39sec is the famous reso-burst sound of the OBXa.
It is the same patch as the Rush' Tom Sawyer famous intro! Same year also.
Fortunately, with OB-Xd plugin from DiscoDSP there is a patch very close called "Please Release Me" that I tweaked...

Drum was easy... Linndrum...
I doubled a Synthia hi-hat for a "je ne sais quoi" that was missing.

For all the tracks I had to scan the patches one by one to "fall" on the good ones... But they were all there! Maybe a few tweaks here and there...

I don't play electric guitar... But it didn't stopped me.
I went for a guitar patch in Surge (Roger Linn) , then build a virtual pedal board featuring the Mercurial MT-A, an amp, then a mixer setup with the wonderful EasyReverb from EmRys.

Mastering includes Deelay from Sixth Sample, UADx LA-2A, FreshAir and Chow Tape Model.
Voilà!

Very well done! I especially like how the OB brass-ish chords sound after the stab comes in . They are very warm and full sounding, and just nail, that 80s poly sound immaculately
Anyone who puts this much effort into a Tangerine Dream sound track cover, using free VSTs gets an instant sub from me. and i look forwards to seeing more of your endeavors

Beach Scene from Tangerine Dream is one of my favourite songs. Kudos for trying to recreate this epic song. Still there are bits that are far from as good as the original. Still, I think you nailed the notes well, but as one say the devil is in the details.
