I think it's also important to note that spotdodging contributes to the dodge staling mechanic, making rolls worse as well and vise-versa.

Spotdodge also has niche uses like, after blocking the first hit of sora's side b you can spot dodge the second/third hit to actually punish them and shielding then spot dodging the 4th final hit of Pyra's neutral B to punish an otherwise unpunishable move. I'm sure there are many more, if you know any please share.

As a kazuya main, spot dodge is a very powerful tool, from spot dodging w/i-frames then doing an electric which also stacks on more i-frames and he is free to move now

The best example of a bad spot dodge I can think of is when a mid level Cloud uses Limit Cross Slash on my shield, then immediately spotdodges. Its not a good habit, and you can generally punish it pretty hard with the right move of course.

I definitely shoudl use spot dodge more but I think my hesitation comes from what you said - I am immobile with some windows of vulnerability so i've always preferred just jumping or even rolling
