Israel has taken self-defense to a new level with Krav Maga.
In Hebrew Krav Maga literally means “contact combat”
It’s combat that looks straight out of a movie.
Maybe because it is!
James Bond himself has picked up Krav maga in his more recent films.

Martial art is about training to fight that hopefully never comes, but when it does; delivering that knockout punch or kick at the right time is what is all about.

I have practiced martial arts since 1978. I am a 3rd Dan TKD black belt and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Krav Maga isn't a typical martial art, because the Israelis must fight for their lives or die trying. It is not a sport, it is a matter of life and death. Israelis are tough mofos who are as fierce as they come. Their entire existence is on the line all the time.

A lot of martial arts have become sports and become useless for self defence. I took karate for several months in the nineties and the style was only about kata and competition, and a former black belt told me the style would be useless on the streets, and the club did have a high turnover of students. Problem was the other alternatives were limited- judo and muay thai- although seemingly judo could be a very effective form of self defence.

The best self defence is instinctively acknowledge how prevention works rather self infliction without getting yourself caught in a predicament is far better than physical defence..

Krav Maga is good for self defense only If you learn it properly. Theres too many studios claiming to teach krav maga but it's all bull. But I wouldn't call it the worlds deadliest martial art. The fake studios ride that hype train hard. Combat Sambo, Pencak Silat, Kali, any of these with a little combination of Judo would work much better in unarmed self defense or armed combat. Tbh even a basic understanding of boxing will take you far when it comes to self defense if your attacker is not a skilled martial artist. I've seen a guy flawlessly beat up two attackers using nothing but boxing
