We bought a used 2000 Silverado LS short bed extended cab 2500 6.0 auto in 2001 with 14, 000 miles on it and we still have it it just turned 100, 000 miles. We treat that truck like it’s gold. It’s garage kept and fully maintained since we bought it.
Used to tow the horse trailer and haul hay that’s it. We’re both almost 70 years old now and the truck will be with us until we croak!
Our friends have a 2002 HD crew cab LT with the same motor we have and they have 415, 000 miles on it. That’s impressive.

Downfall for gm trucks: cylinder deactivation, 0 weight oil.

I’ve owned several Chevy trucks and they all were great. But, I haven’t owned one since 2006.

Buying a GM now is like buying a vehicle from TEMU😂😂😂

Cylinder deactivation and turbocharged engines I'd stay away from.

$6.85 for an entire 12-hour shift is borderline slavery.

Thank you for spreading the wage information, people need to know what kind of conditions their vehicles are made in.

I just checked. GM pays $9.15 to $33.74 per day in Mexico(2024).

Absolutely Scotty! Friend of mine has a 1996 K-1500 series, 5.7L, Chevy Silverado Z-71 4WD with 410, 000 miles! Only change to vehicle is he is on his 3rd engine rebuild, this time with updated fuel injectors. The frame shocked me, it’s a 2500 HD frame, 1500 Silverados today are not HD like 96! Yeah, 1996 - 2006, built to last, but mileage per gallon - nope, these were built for work.

My boss had new Silverado and his transmission was going out in a new truck.

Yup. 80s and 90s can’t beat them. Early / mid 00s are fine too, I wouldn’t want one built after 2007 tbh.

Gm quality took a serious nosedive after about 2007 or so. Anything from before that was pretty well made

I have a 2002 GMC sierra 2500, 4x4 with the 6.0 ltr. I bought it brand new, and it still runs like a champ. No serious issues whatsoever.

I do not think it is pay issue. It is quality control process issue. When management sucks, products sucks.

GM still makes Silverado’s in Fort Wayne, IN. I bought a 2016 Silverado made there and it works great. Guys I know who bought the same truck made in Mexico are not happy with the quality.

If any company expects to be successful in the long run, they need to take care of their employees. It’s not just the customer. In this case though, GM doesn’t care about either.
