Biology as Ideology

In this video, I consider Richard Lewontin's "Biology as Ideology", focusing in particular upon the essay therein, "A Story In Textbooks": Lewontin articulates the manner in which motifs from biology - genetics and evolutionary theory in particular - are often invoked as justification for current and past social and political conditions. Using E.O. Wilson's text, "Sociobiology" as a point of departure, he illustrates the limitations and problematic character of that approach.
