Exercises for Improving Your Tone - The Short Call Ep. 22: Fundamentals Series - Scott Leger Horn

This episode of #TheShortCall is the first of my 3-part series about fundamentals.

What are the exercises we use to practice how we sound?

My go to is always long tones and it's always one of the first things I do every day. But there's a bit more behind that.

Fundamentals are, by definition, about establishing a baseline of ability. For me, that foundation or core should begin with my sound first and everything else should build from there.

So ask yourself when you're warming up "How does this exercise make me sound better" and make sure those exercises are early in your warmup!

Wonderful video! I have to second the point about air attacks: it is more effective to hold off on articulations until later in the warm-up routine. Anyway, keep the videos coming, they are quite helpful!

Practicing on the f horn helped my tone a lot. I already had a good tone during long tones but the f horn work made it a lot steadier and overall made me sound more confident as a player

Thank you teacher
could explain how to put your right hand correctly on the Horn bell, I have a little doubt about that.

I noticed that your second tone had a little "bubble" at the beginning that the first and third didn't have. I have that "bubble" at the beginning of most of my notes and i can't figure out what is causing it. Any idea what you did there? TIA!
