I typically charge $800/day for labor (6-8 hrs) plus 50% on materials.
I don't get anal about "mark-up" as a solo guy. My prices are based on 2 things. The highest rate charged localy & balancing work load w/ opportunity cost of being too busy. The further out my schedule goes, the higher my prices go. Add on rate for things like unexpected prep, additional areas, or feature changes may be based on a much higher rate ( $200/hr) or a flat fee that can end up being as much as I want. At the end of the day, I respect my customers $, and rely on word of mouth. I want them to be EAGER to give a referal. Producing impeccable work, reliable communication, and dependable scheduling has proven to be key to landing estimated jobs consistently.
