I so appreciate your honesty here Monica! I really like how you swapped between your in the moment reactions and how you felt afterwards. That candle does seem amazing! I’m also kind of glad I passed on this box, especially because the actual book was pretty disappointing.

I totally feel you! I've stopped getting book boxes a long time ago when I realized that most of the items are always things that are relatively cheap to buy (bottles, straws, notebooks, keychains) but sold really expensive because of a bookish quote put onto them. It doesn't make the items feel special and most of the time it's obvious that not too much thought went into the creation - putting a quote on everything apparently makes it "bookish" enough. It often leaves you with the same item from different boxes, the quotes being the only thing different. Items created by small businesses like the candle are much more unique and thoughtful to me!! But there's not enough of those in most boxes, so I started supporting my favorite bookish business directly and cancel my box subscriptions. I'm sorry you've spent so much money on this box and ultimately felt let down! :/

hi pals! just adding a note to say that i 100% do not think that positive reviews of this box are any less genuine or honest. a negative opinion is no more or less truthful than a positive one. sadly, this box just wasn't for me, but i def don't want to take away from anyone's excitement!
my recommendation for book boxes is to always look at their most recent ones and see if the items in it are ones you'd be happy to receive. there are def ones that i've gotten in the past and loved and some that i hope to still order from in the future - especially ones that prioritize curating more unique items 💕

I feel so bad for you but I'm so glad you have the pretty UK edition now! I completely agree that putting a quote on a wholesale item is disappointing and curated items from small businesses is so much nicer.

Owlcrate has been SO disappointing this year. I normally get all their regular boxes, but this year I've only gotten 3. I heard they got a new curator and whoever it is is not doing them any favors :( I actually really liked this format of unboxing though! It's nice to see reactions after you've been using (or not using) the items.

thank you for still making this video, even though you said it wouldn't win you any favors and you felt bad posting it. I'm really glad you did anyways. I think it's important to show that sometimes products are disappointing and not always worth your money, especially because booktube usually has a "the more money you spend the better" mentality when it comes to boxes and book hauls. thank you for your honesty!!!

Thank you for being honest, so many people just praise anything from the book boxes and never critique them. Also I saw a another video showing all the side items especially from the October box from ali express.

i completely agree with you about being apprehensive about these "special" editions that seem pretty thoughtless (i think last month's was legendborn which was just the same exact cover with the blue and red swapped and the colors are desaturated 🙃) being bundled with items you could literally find anywhere else and have custom-printed yourself. like i usually like the enamel pins but that's just me and it's kind of a niche thing to collect. this is why i never buy any boxes unless i know how things look or i'll buy the items i actually want from another seller. i just can't justify the wait and the price. thank you so much for your honesty. i always appreciate your input and i'm so sorry for the disappointment 💖

I feel everything you're saying. I liked a few things, but the rest (book included) was meh.

To anybody else who got this box, be careful with the thumb page holder. I used it to show my mother what it was supposed to do, and it left marks in the book I used. There are now two gross looking brown lines in my Tristan Strong book and I'm mad because that shouldn't have happened.
