Which Starter Pokémon can SOLO RUN Their Games?

Most "can you beat Pokemon game with just this Pokemon?" playthrough challenges aren't actually possible. Here are the starter Pokemon that can beat their Pokemon games COMPLETELY on their own, thus being capable of a true solo run.

I make Pokemon videos, such as Pokemon Sword and Shield content, Top 10 or Top 5 Pokemon videos, Pokemon Talk, Pokemon Meme Review, and lots more! If you're any level of Pokemon fan, subscribe for videos you're sure to love!

Alternate Title: Water Starters and their HM superiority

Michael: It’s impossible to have a Pokémon with more than 4 moves.
Ash: Observe!

Fun fact: In X/Y you can actually skip the "mandatory" Kanto starters. Just have a full party and when asked to send one of them in the box to make room for the starter just press B. You"ll still get the mega stone for it. Granted it cant work for a solo run but it's still possible to not obtain a Kanto starter in the game. I found that out doing a nuzlock and not wanting 2 starters since that would make the run far too easy in what might already just be the easiest pkmn game to nuzlock.

The alternative name for this video is “what Water type starter Pokémon can replace bidoof “

Several comments are mentioning that the Hoenn games force you to have a second Pokemon to face Tate & Liza, something I admittedly forgot about when making this video (oops). If you think that disqualifies Swampert, then that's fine. However I personally think Swampert should still get credit, because the games force the gift Castform onto you (hail yeah). You can then:
1. Not level Castform up at all
2. Bring it into the battle alongside your starter
3. IMMEDIATELY KO the Castform Turn 1
By using your starter to KO the Castform, you avoid cheating the battle by causing one of T&L's Pokemon to use an attack on the Castform instead of Swampert. It actually makes the battle a bit tougher since you have to waste your first turn. So while you technically are bringing the Castform into battle, you're not USING it in battle; its only use is being allowed to fight T&L. That's just my interpretation though. Again, I'm sorry I forgot to mention this in the video itself.

EDIT: UGH AND RAIHAN WHY DID I MISS THIS. You can do the same thing in Sword and Shield but with the gift Toxel instead of Castform. There we go NOW I SHOULD HAVE COVERED EVERYTHING

Empoleon: I can learn all the HM moves except for fly. I can beat the game all by myself.
Victory Road: Are you sure about that?

Hate to burst the generation 5 bubble, but it’s kinda impossible to solo starter run black and white. You see after getting cut and dealing with team plasma in the dreamyard. On route 3, there’s a mandatory double battle and they will push you away until you have two Pokémon.
Just like Tate and Liza in gen 3.

I would say that there is an issue with a solo run of the hoenn games, as you need a second pokemon to get through tate and liza's gym

When I saw the title, my mind was like: "ok Fire and Grass starters are automatically out of the contest"

You actually do need Whirlpool in HeartGold to reach the Dragon's Den shrine, which is necessary to get the eighth badge. Thankfully, after that one single instance of Whirlpool, you can immediately forget it since the Move Deleter is in the same town.

Comments:
Talking about how it’s almost all water types: 3%
Other: 1%
TATE AND LIZA ACTUALLY MAKE IT TO WHERE YOU CANT SOLO HOENN: 96%

Hey, I just caught a mistake. You actually need Whirlpool in Gold and HeartGold. In the Gen 2 games, the Legendary Pokemon are completely optional, but you still need Whirlpool for the Dragon's Den.
