I should have learned after the Let It Be box set last year but I ordered the LP box set directly from the Beatles store. You'd think that would mean you would get your hands on it at least as quickly as anybody else but, actually, it takes way longer. Also costs more. Won't get mine until Monday so hopefully it's worth the wait.

The "puck" which is the soft lump of vinyl that's dropped onto the stamper during the pressing process is 180g. Then the puck is pressed between the stampers with the vinyl oozes out the sides. That's to be sure the entire stamper is fully covered with the full thickness of the vinyl. Then the record is trimmed. The loss of 5 to 8 grams is due to the trimming. One could say, "then make the puck bigger to accommodate." Yes but you'd still end with with different weights at the end, because what oozes out and what is trimmed varies slightly. The records cannot be exactly the same, only the puck weight can be consistent. That's how it goes, nobody is ripping anybody off, in case anyone thinks that.

Am I the only one in the world who doesn't care what the thickness of the vinyl is? I mean of course I don't necessarily want it paper thin but I've heard great pressings on quite thin vinyl and terrible pressings on "180g" so it really matters much more the pressing in my opinion. In fact, one of my linear tracking turntables has a lot of problems with 180g vinyl, the needle occasionally bouncing off the platter even when it is cued upwards. This is not a criticism of YOUR criticism of the weight of these vinyls, they ABSOLUTELY should be 180g if they advertise it... but I think the whole "180g" thing is basically a bunch of marketing malarkey anyways they just throw on every modern release so they can justify their collector worthy pricing. Can't wait for your review of the new stereo mix, and how the mono compares to the 2014 and originals of course.

180g Vinyl means the pvc 'biscuit' that gets stamped weighs about 180 grams. After stamping, each record has about 2 inches of excess pvc around the outside that needs to be cut off. This excess usually weighs about 10 grams

180g is a 'weight grade' of LPs, which are categorized broadly as 180g, 150g, and 120g

I just read Questlove’s essay in the Revolver book and it was great! He is an accomplished drummer with great musical knowledge. Put some respect on his name

I'm actually ok with minor differences in the reproduction sleeves. it makes it easier to spot the originals. if they are too close, then some people will try to pass them off as an original. Personally, i was hoping for a colorful foreign sleece like the singles box.

I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to see the flipbacks on the back cover of the album in mono.

I think the 45 sleeve is more of a nod to the original one instead of a 1:1 reproduction, which is why it’s a thicker card stock instead of cheap paper, and it comes out from the side than from the top. As for the 180g, that doesn’t really bother me much. With all the supply shortages going on, it’s hard to get enough vinyl so they might’ve had to cut corners in that department.

I adore the fact that vinyl records have made a come back (at least to a degree).

I got mine yesterday, still haven't opened yet. My local record shop's manager just told me not to tell anyone he sold it to me before the release date (today)...cool guy.I have been watching many of these unboxings. I will be listening tonight here in Ontario Canada.
Love LOVE your videos.
Mine says Czech Republic on the back as well.

This hit Spotify at Midnight and I spent a couple of hours listening to both mono and stereo albums and I have to say I'm a fan of the mono version. The last time I remember hearing the mono version was when my dad had the capitol mono version....also enjoyed the mono version of paperback writer it sounded so raw and real..one day I will own the album set but this is okay for now

Will get this when there is a very deep discount… £170 here in uk … just crazy money… definitely needed more attention to detail on the sleeves..
Even the outtakes set should have been a top loader with flip backs…
Still have the 2cd set and enjoying it very much…

My wife ordered the Deluxe 5 CD set for me for Christmas and it arrived today. She promptly stored it away from my inquisitive eyes.

11:35 I think one of the reasons why they can't make _exact_ replicas of certain products is to stop them from being sold/auctioned off as the original release.

16:00 they based the typeface from the back of the cover. I also wish they used the Grotesque no. 9 (which, by the way, is also used on the 2009 remastered CD spines) throughout the book — Impact is way too common these days, being THE font used in just about every meme ever made.

Just listened and for all that it sounds better, not for me. I don’t know if it’s having 40years invested in the original stereo mix but I won’t be replacing it. Sometimes cleaner is not better, there’s magic in the dirt! I do think it’s a great project though, the remixes, it brings the Beatles to the earbud generation and anything that keeps their music in the ether is good for me.

One thing that I truly loved and laughed at was at the very end where you throw the box down as if it were a piece of trash. That truly made me laugh.
Having said that I know you may have a biased type of Beatles' "ears" but whatever your preconception of this version is...please keep a very opened mind and truly ..."listen" ok?? I trust you will.
Also, I want to know if there is a difference between the 2014 mono and this one.
Thank you.
Greetings from Canada!!

Thank you Andrew. I find all you do so fascinating. I was there in the 60s but you have taught me more about the Beatles and the history than I did in my youth. Thank you! I am a 24-bit download fan so I will understand if anybody groans at my confession. I am waiting for all the sites to list it so I can buy it from the best and cheapest provider. In the meantime I had a listen to it on Amazon Music Hi-Res site this morning but I feel I should comment after your well-respected sound quality perspective is aired. Anyhow, I just hope everybody enjoys this amazing album again today.

It should be mine next week! I can't wait!!! I' m going to buy it at an independent record store... even if it costs me 40€ more than Amazon. Furthermore, after having watched all the unboxing videos around, I am really sure that we need these kind of releases, because they are a beauty... and release shivers and emotions. Long Live Beatles.

Thank you for this video and your comments, with having a lot of copies of revolver it was not my intention to get this box - but against my wife’s better judgment I’m getting it!

Never heard of Questlove? Co-leader of the Roots? A well known musician, writer, historian, film and television artist? Wow!
