#10 The thumb pinch! Absolute game changer. I have playing guitar (lazily and badly) on and off for 7 years. Now trying to play far more often. I always struggled with the F major chord and getting all of the strings ringing out, now with a simple movement of the thumb it has clicked!

Great lesson!

If I can offer a couple more tips from my experience (30 years....I still improve every day....and get great song tips from Lee's channel). 1. Pick one song that you absolutely love, one that has bar chords in it. You'll be more motivated to learn it and play every day until you nail it. Lee's video on Ordinary World introduced me to some open voicings that I hadn't played before. I love that song and it took me a month to perfect it, but I was motivated to keep going. Currently I'm working on Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel.... that's gonna take me a year to perfect with the tricky 7/4 timing, but I'm getting there and it's a brilliant song. So...pick songs that you love! 2. Play with other people who are at the same or a bit above your level. Join a guitar Meetup group. Shared practice is motivating and you learn a whole bunch of stuff and new songs you would never have thought of, and make some cool friends. Be open to learning new songs an styles and share your learning with others. Sorry for the long rant. Peace and happy guitar playing!

I managed to get them down only last year, after many years of only ever playing/getting by with open chord shapes. I’m a great believer in “every days a school day & its never too late”! I did exactly as you show in 1 and 2; I started with power chords and half chords. Great advice LJ. Thank you 😊

Great tips as always!! Thanks again.
I’ve been playing 4 years and still have trouble with the dreaded F but Bm is pretty good now. I’m 49 so started very late!

That was unbelievably helpful. And the video quality is out of this world. When I watch your tutorials I often wonder if I drunk dialed an expensive instructional course in my sleep and the bill will show up on my credit card in a few days.

I remember when I am trying to learn F barre chord, I am putting lots of pressure with my index finger and yet one or two strings are still muted. Time flies and I learn to make it is sound good and I am not even putting much pressure using my index finger.

I think learning the comfort zone of your hand position at doing Barre chords is key factor at learning it. You never know but one adjustment can make you do barre chords in an instant.

When I am still learning F, G and A barre chords there are days I can do them after a few tries and there are days I struggled as the g string is always muted. I have been this for weeks. It turns out that one simple adjustment in my middle finger fretting is what I needed to make me play them consistenly. I need to press a bit higher on my finger tips of my middle finger.

Another struggled I encounter before is the b string always muting at F barre chord. It turns out I just need to position my index finger a bit higher on the fret when I am doing F barre chord.

I am 39 years old with small hands and just recently started learning guitar on acoustic . So anybody can learn barre chords. It is just a matter of practicing.

I love that you mention building up strength in muscles and tendons, basically every bar chord video I've ever seen just say "keep practicing" which feels a bit misleading like it's just a technique thing. I'm 4 years in and whenever people ask me about playing guitar I always say building up strength and dexterity is most of the work at the beginning. I've known how to play certain songs for a really long time but strill don't have the full strength to play them properly. House of the Rising Sun for instance the f chord in this song I've really only just started to be able to play properly, it's almost a bar chord! I've been using your tutorial for To Live Is To Die and the bar in that is great practice! OOH! And if you're taking requests, please can we have acoustic versions of a Kyuss song with bar chords in it! There's not nearly enough tutorials for this legendary band and this is what I've been working on bar chords to be able to play. So much thank you for providing this lesson! I sent a £10 donation through to your paypal because I was so happy to see how much you care about your community and provide such a thoughful lesson. Thanks again so much dude you're the best!
