The Assassination of William McKinley: HipHughes On Location

The assassination of President William McKinley is one of only four Presidential assassinations in US History, yet most Americans know very little about the event. Travel with me to the spot where it happened in Buffalo, NY for a little history lesson and a little fanciful acting by some of my friends.

It’s sad how Garfield and McKinley couldn’t get the proper medical care they needed to survive.

At 4:44, They should of made the auditorium a national landmark instead of tearing it down since that was where McKinley was assassinated. I think the site deserves more than just a stone.

Another example of speedy justice occurred in Florida in 1933. On February 15, 1933, Giuseppe Zangara fired shots into a crowd in Bayfront Park in Miami. He missed President-elect Franklin Roosevelt, but among those wounded was Anton Cermak, the Mayor of Chicago. Cermak died on March 6, 1933. Zangara was tried, convicted, and sentence to death, and, on March 20, 1933, or only 33 days after the shooting, was electrocuted in the state prison at Raiford, Florida.

I do have to give respect to the grief-stricken young lady at the beginning of the video. A singular display of empathy for one killed so long, long, ago. Quite touching!

It's been 58 1/2 years since JFK was shot, but that day still is part of our lives, at least for many of us. Before that, it was barely longer -- just 62 years -- since McK was shot. But I never heard anyone recall that at all, let alone be affected by it in their lives or their thinking -- and in '63 I knew plenty of people who were alive in '01.

Too much talk about his boring political stances. (What are protective tariffs anyway?) I like the part about the murder though. That was interesting....You left out the part where McKinley told the people attending to him, "Don't let them hurt him.." referring to Czolgosz. Theodore Roosevelt probably would have gotten up and snapped his neck.

Little nitpicking by me here...you said that it was a .37 Revolver, but it was actually a .32 Revolver

Do you find it kind of odd/eerie that this happened just 100 years almost exactly before 9/11?

Believe this or not, my grandmother's 2 great cousin is Leon, my mother tells me about him a lot and how Leon and My Grandmother are connected and it is pretty cool how I am related to Leon. We had to switch our name from Czologosz to Cole
