This Irrational Hypotenuse Got a Man Killed #shorts

Was "alogon" unsayable because it was a mathematical Voldemort, or because the concept of irrationality was so difficult to express? Probably a little bit of both. Hippasus's fate is a mix of legends, with some saying he was drowned at sea by the will of the Gods after discovering irrationality, and others suggesting he angered the Pythagoreans to the point of murder. What's true? Who knows! Greek mathematics makes the Wild West look tame.

Pirates: he doesn’t have any jewellery throw him over board

Ancient Greeks: this math doesn’t make sense throw him over board

Okay, but Alagon is an insanely cool name for a fantasy demon or dragon, and I’m totally stealing it for my D&D game.

Imagine discovering the cure for cancer, or the unifying theory, and getting ratio'd like that.

Correction in this case "alogon" or in greek '"αλογον" meant without logic

The guy thrown overboard is yelling “but we can change the units guys! Come back!”

So basically someone invented new math and his friends reacted by throwing him overboard

Ancient Greeks actually were not good example to copy because their visions were too *simplest*: pure geometrical shapes, etc... which does not exist in nature!
But well, there wasn't any good alternative to choose from for the European culture at that time so they were stuck....

Easy solution: double the side lengths, figure out the hypotenuse, half the side lengths. Done!

Lemme do this step by step=
a=1
b=1
1*2=2
2^2=4
4+4=8
square root of 8=~2.828
~2.828/2=~1.414
Hypotenuse of a right triangle with other side lengths equal to 1 is ~1.414

Put this through a pythagorean calculator online and got the same result.

Just to clarify "rational" vs "irrational" numbers reflects whether a number can be represented as a 'ratio' between another two numbers

You could almost say that their reaction was... Irrational.

Alogon sounds like a perfect name for the final, the hardest, and the most impossible extreme demon in geometry dash

I’m currently covering the Pythagorean Theorem in math class so I’m gonna bring this up to confuse my teacher
