We must never ever forget our past. No matter how ugly, brutal, painful, or horrific. That way we are able to refer to it and avoid making the same mistakes over and over again.
Though, as we remember our past we must remember to hold ourselves to a higher standard and not just avoid repeating the past but growing from it with grace and unity.

I'm a native Oklahoman. In 1990 I took a Ok history course. No where in it did we discuss the Tulsa Massacre. FF to 2020, my youngest took that same course, and it wasn't discussed. The biggest thing that we as a people can learn from history is this: It will repeat itself if we don't change anything. We as a people owe it to each other to lift each other up, even if we don't agree or understand. We'll never be any better than our ancestors if we can't work together towards a better way of life for every person, no matter who they are. Hate and indifference destroys our peace. I want better for my children and their children and your children.

Canada had internment camps too. Another thing Canada doesn't teach about. The residential schools.

I learnt about the Tulsa race riot from Bailey Sarian. Thanks Bailey!! I don’t live in America, and my country (Australia) has its own very dark history of being racist. But that race riot in Tulsa is just disgusting and so sad 😞

Cromwell's massacre of the Irish isn't taught well in the States either. Few Irish-Americans under 50 that I've met know the extent of the invasion.

Funny enough, I actually learned about most of this entire marathon list while in school from the early 90s to the mid 00s in... (Drumroll please)... West Virginia! The problem with history classes is that people aren't taught how important history is, and teachers are often boring, and that girl over there is just so freakin hot... But history should be taught until the end of schooling, because it directly impacts our daily lives. And if you get technical, both math and science are a part of and use and learn from history to improve our lives. Literacy is a part of history, as reading and writing were invented to tell historical events. Language is a part of history, from Og the caveman discovering he can convey meaning with the sounds he makes to modern languages with hundreds of thousands of words all being an amalgamation of different people's different sounds and meanings and words combining to make something understandable and ever changing as new words and new meanings are created. History is so incredibly important to the present and the future, and so many people completely forget or ignore it because theyve never been taught just how much it affects them daily.

I think it was because of the fire that new factory fire codes were in acted to make sure it couldn't happen again. What a tragidy that could have been prevented.

I'm so glad that we may finally learn about the event in Tulsa.. You always heard stories and talk, but we never learned anything about it in school! (I'm from Oklahoma, Tulsa is a ways away from my area though). It was awful, honestly... I can't believe people can be so horrid.

I feel lucky that I had the opportunity to have history teachers who taught us a lot of this information.
