The infotainment system has gone through a software and also a hardware change. So, it is probably safe to assume, that anybody who bought an example from an earlier batch of production, is stuck with the broken system for the lifetime of the car. Nice one, VW.

I still prefer the mk.7 Golf to the new one. Thanks for the review Thomas

I don’t know why the VW Group decided not to have the new touch-sensitive slider climate controls backlit - surely it wouldn’t have been that hard to have them backlit?

2022 VW Golf 8 R-Line 1.5 TSI looks good in "Mountain Dew" lime color ... Interior looks good, seats comfortable, but cut corners on some interior components/rear door panels etc ... Front & rear amber sequential turn lights look great ! Slainte' ! Cheers !

As someone who owns a Golf 8 and bought it last year, I don't mind the trashy infotainment system, since I barely use it. The bluetooth connection often disconnects, but besides that, I don't see other issues. I have the 1.5L eTSI DSG 150PS model and I'm 100% happy. Its a daily fun car, its adequately fast and it turns beautifully on corners. I never use SatNav because I just don't need it, but when I do, which is rarely, it works. The speakers sound great, engine noise is barely noticeable and at 110kph the car cruises at 2000rpm. My lowest fuel economy peaked at 4L per 100kms (I got the lowest figure doing around 60kph) and the worst at 9L in heavy traffic. Its a great car to be honest if you exclude the shitty infotainment system.

So after they fired Christian Senger, the infotainment got better, awesome!

I'm a BMW (M2 Comp) fanboy but the MK 7 / 7.5 Golf especially GTI and R are just beautiful. Sorry VW Golf lovers but the MK8 is just not as good looking.

I have a golf 8 1, 5 etsi. Got mine right after launch, i have to say the issues have been countless. If i was offered to keep mine for free after the lease has expired i would say no

The infotainment system doesn't need an upgrade, it needs a downgrade. I.e. removal and returning to buttons, dials and switches.

I can't believe they upgraded it but still didn't backlight the buttons on the dash!!! Every review has slated them and yet they still haven't rectified it. I can't understand how it even made it through the design process 🤷🏼‍♂️

That's an incredibly small update, even if it does make a real difference. Sounds like they just threw in the correct microchip this time. But hey, they got you to do a whole new review of it so I guess it was worth it for the airtime. A couple of LEDs behind those sliders was obviously a bridge too far. That colour is hideous too. They should always give you the Thomas Blue version to test at the very least.

Hello Thomas from the U.K. this has been a good review to watch and listen too. I purchased this car a few days ago, and i am really enjoying it, your video has explained a few things too, Good review Thank You

I don't know if VW did it on purpose but my Golf 7 (4, 5 years old now) seems to have all the features and none of the drawbacks.
The infotainment is fast & has never failed me. It has physical buttons instead of those touch sliders.
I would have loved to have been there when they had the meeting discussing the upgrade to golf 8. Hilarious.

I drove a T Cross this weekend as a rental car. I don't know what it is with European cars but the seats are not actually comfortable. I always thought they were until I drove long distance in a Toyota Corolla and it felt like I was never even sitting. I feel the Corolla rental I drove at the beginning of the year was far more comfortable in both seat comfort and driving position than the VW and even my Mercedes.

G’day Thomas. Nice to see a review of an R not in lapas blue.

It baffles me why they chose to put a weak chip on a demanding software in an expensive car in the first place

The Golf just gets better … I don’t know what all the fuss is about the lack knobs and buttons … set it up the way you want and it’s a pure driving experience, just like the old days

Some useful refinements but nothing groundbreaking. Wish they’d redesigned the infotainment as it still looks dated.
