My family lives in the hill country in Texas. Bees and wasps everywhere, especially during summer. The best way to escape a swarm is to run through the brushiest area you can find. The foliage will get in the way of the insects and distract them from you. Then just take an alternate route back and recover anything you may have dropped in the pursuit. Most importantly, avoid the hive. Coming within 100 feet of the hive is just asking for trouble.

If you are being attacked, do not walk away (despite what some comments say). Run. Each sting releases attack pheromones to alert other bees. Just run, get out, the sooner the better.

Let me correct this just walk at brisk speed, do not swat or smash them they release attack pheromones and if those are on you the other bees will know who to attack…just simply walk more than 200 yards away and they should leave you alone because they normally can’t travel further than that from the hive…

listen, if a bee swarm approaches you, stay still and don’t provoke them. If someone else near you starts running or freaking out, RUN. bees will attack anything once provoked.
