Carol Kaye was originally a guitar player. She picked up the bass one day when a bassist failed to turn up at a recording session she was scheduled to play guitar at. Her guitar background contributed to her playing these wonderful walking bass lines. She has since gone on the play on at least 10, 000 recordings. Incredible.

The bass line in Good Vibrations is light years better than some slapfest that passes for a bas sline nowdays

She did play bass. But she even said the baseline was Brian’s idea.

Sorry to bust everyone's bubble. Carol Kaye is The Queen of bass. However, Brian Wilson wrote this part. Carol admired it's uniqueness for a Pop song when she recorded it and she said that she would never have played it that way.
