Testing A STROKED V8 Small Block Chevy For A TRACTOR On Our Dyno!

Bringing two unfinished projects together... today we're using an engine to test our "new to us" dyno, while using our "new to us" dyno to test an engine!

The cleaning guy built this stroked 267ci SBC around 20 years ago to install in one of his Allis Chalmers D-17 tractors, but it got pushed to the backburner. Should he finish it?

Let us know!

Should the cleaning guy finish his V8 swapped Allis Chalmers D17?

Always enamoured with the cleaning guys knowledge of the fine details of so many different engines. Does he ever forget about anything he’s ever touched or seen.? I doubt it myself. Man you are a modest genius.

I feel like I should help pay for a gallon of gas since im going to be glued to this channel as you play around with old iron, mild-rpm builds, and this dyno

Nice!! I had a 267 in a 79 El Camino. It never let me down. I always said because it didn't have enough HP to hurt itself.

I am so impressed at the way Jim encourages his son. He moves forward no matter what. A man to be respected!

Ive retrofit al 901s with a your dyno kit. They product is pretty good, and the support is awesome. If all you really need is a horsepower/torque curve it can be done with a rasperry pie, influx and grafana. Its a great tool for breaking engines at varying loads and pct throttle.

I had a 1982 Malibu wagon that had a 267 V8 in it. People didn't believe me when I told them what engine it had. Most people have never heard of the 267.

You're looking for the shape of the curve. Not the numbers at the side. The tests you did told you exactly what you needed to know - where the peak torque is, and that you specced the parts correctly.
Great job!

Congratulations guys! Setting up a proper dyno is no small thing.
Another fantastic video that educates, motivates and entertains all at the same time. Thank you both for all that you put into every video!!!

Good show. Build the tractor. Build the dyno cell. Run what you have. It's plenty good enough for a small shop building mostly regular engines. You can set you own warning lights for loss of oil pressure or something. And the numbers are good enough. As long as you can print out what you get to give a customer, you're good enough 😊

YES YES YES! Put it into the D-17! That would be awesome.

Needed this a couple years ago when breaking my my old mercruiser 470. My old man and I used our engine stand, some blocks and a ratchet strap. Wasn't sketchy at all.

The eternal beauty of the SBC - mix and match parts for whatever your heart desires! Even a tractor plant!!! I'd love to see the D17 swap completed - the mid-60s versions had a nice hot rod grill. Then set up a match race pull with one of the flathead V8 9Ns out there at a tractor show! Not a massive weight; just a harrow or something.

Pretty cool to see you and your dad working together on projects without any issues. My father was a lot more animated when we were working together on the farm, he calmed down in his later years. I would like to see that engine installed in the D17 and what it takes to do it. I would also like to see the Dyno Buildout. I hope your family had a Merry Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year. Thanks again for the Videos.

Very cool, making old tools work with modern electronics and seeing the amazing interchangea ability of the small block chevy
