In this video, I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Ada Montalvo, PA about what it takes to become a PA, typical day in the life, and how she balances work and being a single mom.

WHAT IS A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA)?
Physician assistants are medical providers who are licensed to diagnose and treat illness and disease and to prescribe medication for patients. They work in physician offices, hospitals and clinics in collaboration with a licensed physician.

They undergo rigorous medical training. PAs must take a test in general medicine in order to be licensed and certified. They must graduate from an accredited PA program and pass a certification exam. Like physicians and NPs, PAs must complete extensive continuing medical education throughout their careers.

This is the most motivational PA video I've seen. I am a Mom in my mid 30's. I am in my last semester of Bio undergrad and I live in SA. Thank you so much for this.

Pretty sure I watched this while in PA school but seeing only 90k in a surgery specialty 5 years ago.. wow. Average generally all over I think is around 110-120k now but can definitely be higher. My first job as a new grad in family medicine in Florida was 100k.

Thank you so much for sharing her story. I'm in my 30s and was thinking of going back to finish my degree in Biochem and then going to PA school, or, just going into BSN program. It's good to know there are people succeeding out there no matter the odds.

Please help!! I’m 31 years old, I graduated with a PolSci BA and a master’s degree also related to Political science, which means I have not taken any of the science classes I would need to get into this field. 1. How could I finish the prerequisite classes required in getting into the PA school at my situation? 2. In case of shadowing, do I just randomly contact some PAs and ask if I could do shadowing? 3. How long do you think I’d need to finish the PA in my case? If you have some more advices that could help me finish the PA programs the fastest way considering my situation, I’d appreciate it! Thanks a lot!

Nice video Dr. Webb. By any chance, could you possibly interview a certified nurse anesthetist? I am currently a nursing student and being a CRNA is career choice I have in mind.

Will recommend a video on more in-depth comparison between the training of a PA vs NP. Both profession roles are similar but the training/course requirements differ.
