I am a recovering alcoholic, and I live less than a 2 minute walk from the liquor store. I remember the days of being a regular, posted outside at 8:59am, waiting for those doors to open. I remember picking through quarters and dimes at the register, shaking and sweating uncontrollably, just to get a bottle of the cheapest, most foul vodka. Anyway, I still walk past there sometimes, and I spoke to the cashier one day who was outside taking a smoke break. I told her that I've been sober for several months, and that I'm doing really well in life. I told her if I ever come in there again, to please just not even serve me. She said that legally, she can't NOT serve me, but that she'd try to talk to me out of it if it came down to it. Thankfully it has never come down to that.

An alcoholic knows the liquor store policy, and makes their own excuses

A liver is stronger than a heart, so therefore, it is safer to drink than to fall in love 😎

fun fact... minimum spending limits on credit card transactions is almost definitely a violation of the contract with the credit card processor and can result in fees or cancellation of the contract.

Recovering alcoholics don’t go to liquor stores, alcoholics go to liquor stores 😂

When I first saw him buying just a fanta I thought: "Oh, neat, you see this a lot with people in recovery, buying something non alcoholic from a liquor store or bar to help teach themselves not to let their addictions control them."

Then I saw the Tito's and actually went "Oh no" out loud.

BTW. There's no minimum if you are using debit. This is from Visas and discovers terms of service.

Some of these comments reminded me, my favorite liquor store also sells steak!

My grandfather was an alcoholic. And after he got sober, he would occasionally buy stuff at the liquor store. He seemed to treat it as a test of will or something. Like he needed to prove to himself that he could say no.

I love that a recovering alcoholic would choose to go to a liquor store to get a soda 😂😂😂

My store got a new card reader a few months ago that charges a 2.5% fee for using card vs cash. I always try to tell people so it doesn't blindside them but there's a select few people that have me explain it to them and then easily double their order because they think they're technically saving money

One time back in the day, I wanted to buy a soda at the convenience store, and only had my card. The clerk said I had to spend more to use my card, so I asked for a pack of Camel lights, and he asked if I even smoked. I said I hadn't had a cig in like five years, and he let me use my card for just the soda 😂
