Added to my wishlists, thank you. Long time Fantasy reader, but last year i did start Star Nomad as one of my first sci fi series. I did really enjoy the world building of its pseudo Star Wars universe, and love the traveling bastion/found family tropes. It added a lot of interesting layers to the world. I DNF'd far into the series as it felt more repetitive/not what i expected, but will definitely remember it for a while

This was an incredibly thoughtful way to make recommendations. You didn't just organize this by "light" sci fi vs "hard" sci fi--you gave very clear reasoning for what makes the book a more advanced sci fi. Super helpful, thank you!

I’ve been reading science fiction for over 50 years, so I guess I would consider myself an advanced sci-fi reader. I’ve read Ancillary Justice and really enjoyed it. Hadn’t read the Nine Fox Gambit series yet but I’ve got it on my list. I find most of the books by Peter F. Hamilton complicated (and long) but we’ll worth reading or better yet listening to. The Great North Road is one I’ve gone back to several times to re-listen and I always catch something new.

I really love the structure and layout of these videos. I'm definitely a beginner Sci-fi reader, so I'll for sure be on the lookout for those titles.

Your sci fi videos are my favorite. I jumped into Ancillary Justice a few years ago based off a recommendation on a podcast with Any Weir. It was a wonderful brain explosion for me, and my first encounter with AI. Didnt realize at the time that I could get through something that was that involved but then I knew for sure that I loved sci fi. I have become very involved with Netgalley this year and love to “overchoose” new sci fi options so I can try the latest works for free. Would love to know your thoughts on Machinehood and The Body Scout, my favorites from there this year. Also would enjoy seeing a video on some “light, fun” sci fi reads as I use those get me through between difficult works. Thanks!

I read nine-fox gambit as a sci-fi beginner and it was so good. I’m not sure how much i was able to get out of the actual science behind it but I remember being obsessed with it afterwards, even though it confused me. The battle sequences are just so intriguing!!

I have been reading SF for about 50 years. The Imperial Radch Series was great, but a little lite for an old hard SF fan. If you want some math heavy SF, check out Greg Egan.

I loved the tier recs! I really appreciate how you put time into explaining why you chose each book! One of these days I will end up reading sci-fi, lol

Definitely subscribed! Just picked up Repo Virtual based on your review, I love science fiction... but I up until reading Andy Weir's Hail Mary kind of stuck to Star Trek, Star Wars, and Alien. Thanks for the recommendations!

Neal Stephenson gets flack for taking such a relatively optimistic view of technology in relation to capitalism as well as some deeper issues with how he has portrayed philosophy and mathematics in certain books such as Anathem. Nonetheless, I agree with your recommendation for Seveneves, it's good sci-fi. I've already read Seveneves, Ancillary Justice, and Ninefox Gambit, before, but the others I've only heard about in passing. I'll definitely check them out as well since I'm always looking for new stuff to read. I found this video plenty helpful and I appreciate the structure of these videos.

Great video, Rachel! The Lindsay Buroker is a lot of fun. You make me want to reread Seveneves on audiobook. I think that the dryness of it might lend itself to that format. Nine fox Gambit and Ancillary Justice are both high on my list! Great suggestions!

In Ancillary Justice I don't remember them taking corpses. I remember a scene where they took someone out of storage, woke them up and then loaded them with the AI - essentially hyjacking their body. I found the scene quite horrifying and it has stayed with me. This is one of my favourite trilogies of all time!

The last two sound really good, but intimidating lol I would like to check out Star Nomad, Planet Fall, and Seven Eves. Have you ever read The Lost Fleet series? I am currently listening to Project Hail Mary. I know you weren't a huge fan of that one, but I think it's better as an audiobook. I can tell already that it would be a very different experience had I read it. I like it so far 😃

Those are some good recs. I dont consider myself a s a newbie to sci fi and a few of the recs are already on my tbr, think it's time to move them up.

I don't like sci fi, but I started reading The Ghost Line after seeing your video last week and I love it. Thank you for your amazing recommendation!

Love sci fi and I read beginner and moderate levels. I def. struggle w/ hard sci fi but I want to get there because there are some really intriguing hard scifi books out there.
