Goth girls are just like any other girl you just have to be genuine, and have things in common.

This video should be labeled how to talk to anyone. Because a lot of people assume the wrong things too many times about our subculture.

Well, considering how shy I am when it comes to goth women, I think most of these tips will help.

Yes, so tired of being automatically associated with the bdsm and fetish scenes. People get really mad at me for some reason when I tell them I'm not into those things and accuse me of misrepresenting myself. I even got some backlash from people in the goth scene for not liking bdsm loll. Hmmm not every goth has to. To each their own.

I will add one thing. If you are at a live music event, (which hopefully we can be back doing that soon), don't try to have a conversation DURING a song. There is plenty of time before the band starts playing, while everyone is just standing around drinking. There is usually at least an hour between doors opening and showtime. Talk to them then. Or in between bands, there is plenty of time while they change the equipment. Or after the show, if they are hanging around getting drinks or in the merch line or maybe hanging out to see if they can meet the band. So many good times to have conversations. Just STFU during the songs. I paid money to see and hear this artist and I want to hear them, not some banal chatter. And if it's a quiet song, an acoustic song, that doesn't mean "This is my chance to tell you what my roommate did last night". That means be EVEN MORE QUIET so the real fans can hear the song.

God, the fetish assumptions... Only a few months ago I was with two friends and met with a third person, a man, who seemed to be a bit interested in me. At some point the subject of tattoos/piercings came up and he hinted that he thought I was into pain (note that I have no tattoos and my only piercings are in my ears). When I said I can't see myself getting a tattoo because I hate pain he seemed very shocked. That was probably one of the mildest interactions along those lines though, often people are way more crude about it. Of course I understand that there is some crossover between goth fashion and fetish gear but come on, don't be a creep about it.

I’d talk to a goth girl the same way I talk to anyone: desperately trying to hide my fear and paranoia Patrick Batemen style.

I just walked up to you at Comic Con Brussel, treated you like a human being and complimented your awesome clothing style. That was it! And we were cool in an instant :)

I was Goth in terms of style for seven years or so in the 80's. I was not into anything fetishy etc. I just loved the music and style(and still do). But I will say that if you embrace any sub culture in terms of outward appearance you are going to get negative attention constantly. So if you are someone who just wants to blend in and be left alone.... Don't be Goth, Punk or anything else outside the main stream. I was rebelling so I honestly loved annoying people just by walking in the room. But if you can't take the heat dress normal or move to the wilderness.

I find it quite annoying when people ask if they can get to know you but you tell them you're not interested and they're like "so rude it's just because I'm not 'goth'!?!?!?!" 🤦🏻‍♀️

Literally this is a checklist for decent human interaction 🥺 it just fits and it's how it's meant to be 🥺 it's so sad to need to underline multiple times that consent is vital and just be honest/don't be an ass 🥺

the same applies for when talking to a goth guy and stop assuming they'll want you around just because you're a girl, especially if you're drunk.

As a teen goth, I get a lot of sexual harassment from looking the way I do, from both people my age and adults wayyy older than me. I feel like this is a major problem with how non-goths treat us. It’s really frustrating. I just love the music and want to dress in a way that aligns with that. I wish I could get every creep to watch this video so they can learn a thing or two.

I'm not Goth but I'm "darkly inclined". Biggest thing when approaching a Goth woman is remember that she's a WOMAN. And like any other woman, you should treat her with respect. She wants to love and be loved in return. Goth women already know they have a bullseye on their ass from stereotypical douchebags who treat them like inanimate sex objects. If you're interested in a Goth gal, be interested in HER and not because you're trying to fulfill a sexual fetish. They have brothels for that.

As someone who grew up around Alternative types. I can say that I've seen some very attractive alternative and goth women. But where I currently live now I rarely see Any out and about

I've been talking to a beautiful Goth woman for about 2yrs on social media and have fallen in love. I'm going to see her soon for her Birthday....🦇🖤

As an old alternative guy I can say it is more natural and easy to interact and connect with other Goth or darkly inclined people. Based on mindset and values about pop culture like music, art, movies and esthetics. From having a nice collection of original Clan of Xymox Lp to move to Germany to attend Wave-Gotik-Treffen every years ''Goth'' are not all the same but they share the same core. and of course be nice because Goth is a subdivision of Punk and we take no s*** we will tell you to f*** off

Merci Orphea for the eight tips that will keep me intergrated and to always appreciate the Goth subculture. You tips are also worth practicing to be a first class cultural interpreter. I have had to put your tips into use on an interpreter assignment. You have encouraged me to prepare myself to be a respectful Goth street epistemologist. To appreciate the Goth subculture is to delve into it deeper and knowing that you will get to like it a lot.
