You can actually catch them by moving very slowly because they perceive you as a stationary object.

Once you are very close, you snap it as fast as posible out of its life

Don't try to swat the fly. Instead clap the air right above the fly. They see you coming, and fly up straight into your clap. Works every time.

Tip that works!! - slowly take two hands 5-6 cm above a fly and just normally clap. It will jump once you start and 90% of the time land between your hands!
