When you square each term... don't you have to square each entire side-- and therefore have cross terms hanging out? This would be +2(xy)/(bc) on the RHS and +2cos(wt)sin(wt) on the RHS. You could then sub again on one side(in terms of the other) and cancel to give what you have around 3:05.
