A single mom wants out of her rental so she can have space for herself and her three children in Toms River, New Jersey. She's enlisted the help of her boyfriend who's pushing for a turnkey home, but she's set on finding a place with historic character.

The fact the final house was the sellers childhood home and took a hit in the sale to prevent a soulless investor from destroying it shows how much love they had for this house. She chose well. She is going to put as much love as the seller did back into the house.

I live a town away from here and I am so glad this women got such a great deal on a home down the shore in NJ!!! I didn't even know you could buy any type of home for this price anywhere in NJ, no less in a shore town, boy did she really get a deal on this historical home!! God Blessed her!!

How can a real estate agent say a window less room can be used as a bedroom?

We grew up in the town above Toms River. VERY expensive to live in that area (Ocean County). Most of the houses in TR are really old, so she should have no problem finding a house with "character." Where we lived, we could walk to the beach, but overall what's more important: being able to survive or being able to enjoy the beach? Realistically, we chose to live somewhere that we can afford out of New Jersey.

The bigger problem is taxes--it's why most people move OUT of New Jersey.
Do we miss our home state? Sometimes, but mostly for the familiarity of the area, the food (diners!) and family and friends, but since we are Sr. Citizens, we know that we can never afford to move back on our income.
Very sad that NJ is so tax heavy that those of us who grew up there cannot go back to our roots.

Keep in mind that code requires a window of a certain size for any room used as a bedroom in case of fire. It also requires specific electrical outlets. Re year home remodeling career speaking here.
