So, half of Bing's continued use with spikes was Microsoft buying Bing and placing a convenient search bar on everyones task bar. You try to search for a file on your PC you know exists, yet somehow up pops an internet window proudly searching Bing! That was 99% of that Bing spike til people disabled Cortana (aka Bing).

It's called market leader. A monopoly would mean that there is absolutely no other competition and no possibility for any form of competition to enter. There is complete control of supply and the company can dictate whatever terms they want to.
