Google acted illegally to crush its competition and maintain a monopoly on online search and related advertising, a US judge has ruled.

The landmark decision on Monday is a major blow to Alphabet, Google's parent company, and could reshape how technology giants do business.
Google was sued by the US Department of Justice in 2020 over its control of about 90% of the online search market.

It is one of several lawsuits that have been filed against the big tech companies as US antitrust authorities attempt to strengthen competition in the industry.

I hope that Safari, Firefox, and other non-Google web browsers allow for more choice in search when running a browser for the first time. Similar to what Microsoft had to do with Browser Choice back in the 2010s with Internet Explorer.

I liked the search engines in the 1990s. Web Crawler, Alta Vista etc. The internet was fun back then.

Firefox and other browsers depend on Google for funding. This ruling could end up trading the search monopoly with a browser monopoly.
