Not that it’s important or there is a right or wrong knee to get down on when proposing, but the traditional stems back to medieval knights. The “correct” knee is left knee as when knights were knighted, during prayer or surrendered they would do so by getting down on their left knee. Getting down on your left knee is ultimately symbolic of surrendering one’s self to a ruler, a god, an opponent or surrendering to love. Of course in the modern age such symbolic gestures are irrelevant and you don’t even have to get down on one knee. Just an interesting bit of history and the origins of why people get down on one knee when proposing.
