How is it that we have all of the “power” and wealth that we’ve found ourselves hopelessly in debt ? We can never repay $36 trillion dollars of debt, especially when we go $2 trillion further in debt annually. Our trillion dollar interest payments annually exceeds all but the top 17 GDP’s of the world.

This trendy view that the US regime grew overly arrogant and lost its ability to think realistically only makes sense if you think that the US regime is or should be primarily interested in the welfare of the American masses. But that's never been the case and it never will. The ruling party of the US (it's basically one party) represents the interests of its funders, the capitalist class. Its foreign policy decisions have to be seen though this lens and in this respect have generally been a success. The only real defeats it has ever suffered were at the hands of communists. The only real concessions to the working classes it has ever made were due to the fear of spreading communism at home. The Soviet Union was directly or indirectly the ultimate source of every defeat, every concession and every fear the US capitalists and their satellites had to suffer. The arrogance of the US ruling class after the fall of the Soviet Union is therefore well justified because they know that nobody else threatens them existentially. If the American working people want a state that stands for their interests they must overcome the defeatism and the philistine illusions spread by the ruling classes and create their own party and at last, their own worker state.
