How to fix leaking forks on a budget, Scrambler Build

preview_player
Показать описание
Leaking forks can cost a lot to fix if it's not just a simple seal replacement. If you have pitting or damage to the fork tube itself there are not many budget solutions, However, hopefully, this idea will keep you going until you get new ones or save for re-chroming.

This was great! Did this today on my Suzuki gsxf 600 and it was leaking like crazy before but now absolutely nothing comes thru! 👍

Not so loud on the music please! Drives me nuts when I have to keep adjusting the volume between quiet talking and super-loud music...

For anyone also watching this, a good alternative to regular spray paint is tractor paint. Stuff is super durable and relatively inexpensive. I've had frame repairs on my car sprayed by the welder, and they still look good after 2 or 3 New England winters

i use low voltage and zinc from old battery to replate the area of the ding to cover the open pores and then just use good quality superglue, yes it lasts a very long time no problem

Hi, that's a great idea, never thought about it but I fixed my washing machine drum with that stuff and it's still working six years later hahah. hope it does the same good job !! thanks, Gus

Anything other than stripping and re-chroming is only going to be a temporary fix at best, if it works!
I decided that when i discovered my forks on my project bike were beginning to flake and pitting was just beginning to appear that, instead of going with rubbing down the high spots and removing even more of the protective layer of chrome which was coming off anyway, I would have them re-chromed right from the start. I Shopped around and found prices from £150- £270 for the pair ($290-$520AU) so its worth looking around and saving yourself the grief of having to do it again in six months!

What a great idea, Dan! Hope she holds for you forever now. Just wanted to also compliment you on your editing and production work once again- first rate, Mate! 🏍👍🏍

Around here new fork tubes (non OEM) are about the same cost as getting them rechromed! Way to go IMHO.

learned a neat idea recently, you can grow crystals of metal with electrolysis so my idea is to use a similar power range that is slightly weaker with modeling clay to hold the solution over a damaged area and then drop in a strip of nichrome to just fill the pits with that and then polish it down

Yeah! Looking forward to see the final result

Really interested to see if this fixed it. Can you reply on this one please?

Interested to see how this works out! A great tip if it does! :-) And Dan, the file should go opposite of the pipe to get that round shape move! Remember? ;-)

Very useful guide mate. I might do it for my old kz400

i wouldve thought that epoxy would be too thick to penetrate all the small pitting and gain proper adhesion. i might try this, but with superglue for the smaller pitting and epoxy for the bigger pits.
