I can never take William seriously with those facial expressions. He seems so overly animated, like he's not even human. 😳

Saying they have "Ana" and saying they are suffering and are at risk of dying a horrific death is incredibly insulting!!!

Me: "Should I try to do something positive for myself?"

William Hornby: "No, you'll fail! They're gonna laugh at you!!"

My sympathy has run out for them. They don’t have restrictive EDs. They’ve been conditioned to getting participation medals and accepting failure. They see people with sheer willpower and think there must be something wrong with that person. I’d rather be the person who fails while trying than the one who never started.

“Are you willing to be curious about that” is the most manipulative phrase I’ve ever heard. By saying that about known fact you either force the person to enter a mindset of questioning reality or make them admit they don’t want to challenge their beliefs (known facts). That’s so gross to me

"I'm William! I'm a human & I enjoy human activities like motor vehicles & sports ball! I encourage you not to lose weight. Be assured this has nothing to do with my...sorry...an alien race preparing to colonise earth & consume humans as cattle! EAT MORE BUTTER! Ok bye!"

As someone diagnosed with EDNOS but recovered now, I have some thoughts about why people want to claim restrictive EDs over everything else. I frequented a lot of ED communities online when I was sick and these were some of my observations.

In the eating disorder world, restrictive EDs are seen as signs of high willpower and discipline. Binge eating disorders are associated with gluttony, slovenliness and lack of control. There’s a hierarchy to these things within the ED space. It’s why a lot of people would rather be diagnosed with anorexia than bulimia. I know people who’ve melted down over a bulimia diagnosis because it meant they weren’t “good enough” for anorexia. No matter your weight, I’d say the majority of people would rather be seen as a person with willpower and discipline versus a person completely out of control and gluttonous and I think that perception plays a big part.

Back when I frequented ED communities, anorexia was considered the “gold star” ED basically - it meant you were the strongest and most disciplined because you could restrict yourself from food altogether or eat very small amounts for long periods of time. Bulimia was a step below and the Ana crowd kinda looked at them as lesser because they “gave in” to food. The vast majority of people with bulimia are normal or overweight so they never reach that underweight ED pinnacle of success, which also adds to them being seen as a step below. Binge eating disorders were looked down on the most, for the same reasons as bulimia was but to a higher degree.

I’ve noticed these same standards and ED hierarchy within the “real world” too. Anorexia is simply taken much more seriously by the general public and some people see it as the only “legitimate” ED. It generally has more flattering connotations out of any of the EDs, if that makes sense. Binging is seen as shameful and gluttonous so people don’t want to be associated with it.

Idk if this will make sense to anyone who hasn’t frequented those communities (and please don’t, they’re very unhealthy and harmful spaces); I think there’s a lot more that goes into it but these are just some of my immediate thoughts.

If our society is so “fatphobic” then why is half the US population fat?? When i go out here in the south 90% of the people are obese or overweight despite supposedly living in a “diet obsessed” society.
The sad truth is we live in a “treat yourself” society. And that is ruining us.

it's super uncommon, but i knew someone with atypical anorexia who went from morbidly obese to a healthy weight in a few months. i don't know her situation now, though i hope she's alright.
it just goes to show that any fat person that truly has a restrictive ed will stop being fat very quickly.

The thought process: "If I just tell people I have anorexia, they can never fat shame me because then THEY'RE THE ONES promoting self-harm. Although I'm wondering why I haven't felt my feet in days and and why they've turned solid black."

Reminds me of Abbey Sharp projecting her history of restrictive ed on her audience. It's like, dude, not everyone has the same disordered thought patterns around food as you do.

Imagine alcoholics being told by their “friends” that, since many people relapse, why bother trying to quit…

Just let that liver disease set in because you can be healthy at any size/consuming anything and your choices have no impact on the condition of your body or mine.

The reason people refuse to admit they have binge ED is because it’s never been glamourised the way restrictive EDs have. They want a pat on the back for eating and saying they have Binge ED isn’t going to get them that.
