The thing is, we are assuming the world will be "a more advanced version of now". The same way, back in 1900 people assumed we would all have flying propeller cars and air balloons to work. They had no concept of hypersonic travel or the internet. Can you imagine telling someone in 1900 that "we will land on the moon in 70 years"?.

Technology we hadn't comprehended will pop up and change everything.
