as a plumber when you refill your water heater make sure you open the hot side on a faucet when refilling it with water and make sure all air is bled out before you turn the power back on to it, otherwise it will burn both of your elements to a crisp then short out and trip the breaker

North FL here. Knew the trick with the water heater, but it's still invaluable advice for everyone. Had no idea about the cellular hack, big thanks!

As a boyscout in my younger years I can add to this. If power goes out and you need heat, take that candle and get a clay flower pot. Have the candle lit with the pot upside-down covering the candle will generate a lot of heat. You can stay by that to your comfort distance. Eventually that heat can fill up a room. Be mindful of that.

You're right about the generator. But, the problem is that if things are really bad (and sometimes not even) people will steal that bad boy.

NOTE: The satalite function works ONLY on IPhone 14 and above! If you have an older device it WILL NOT WORK and won’t show up!

The generator one is really good advice. When my family's power went out for abt two weeks after a wind storm we used a generator to keep our fridge and freezer running. We kept the aerator outside but it was too close to our house and the gas got into my sisters room and gave her carbon monoxide poisoning. She ended up being fine after being a bit sick for a while(she actually thought it was funny) but we definitely learned our lesson.

Good luck with the hurricane and I thank you for the effort you put into your videos.

I look forward to seeing more of your content after Milton leaves your State.

My 50 amp generator cord just reaches outside the garage to the generator. We shut the garage door, cover the small gap with old blankets and have a meter in the laudry room that connects to the garage to tell us if any harmful gasses are making their way inside. Didn't really need it this time, but was a life saver for two weeks after Ian made landfall right on top of us.

Standard Square D panel, most likely found in the West side of the United States, standard amperage range for a small house, likely single floor unless this is a sub panel. Primarly 15 and 20 amp breakers meaning lights and outlets, two 30 amp two-pole breakers, one of 35/40/45 amp two-pole breakers for larger appliances like AC, Washer and Dryer, and so on. Use of GFI or GFCI (the ones with yellow buttons) is also good, I would guess they go to outlets in the kitchen, bathroom or outdoors.

Good on you for keeping all the breakers by the same manufacturer, always worth doing.

Tip for Electrical endeavors during Milton and Disasters.

In Milton's case, it is hitting Florida where Fuses are more often used than on the West Coast. Have a backup store of one or two for each kind or even just save the label. Fuses can only be used once meaning even if you lose power for a while knowing what you need to get will he useful. Recording the Catalog Number means you can go to an electrical store and thet can get you the part. Go to the professionals or look up the manufacturer themselves, dodgy sites and sellers can just as easily doom your house as save it.

It is worth considering upgrading to breakers if you can afford it due to their reliabilty, testability, and reusability, but if all else fails, record what you are doing so the next guy knows what to fix.

Safer to open the lid or make a hole before heating the can. Potentially messy, but less likely to explosively spit when removing the lid

You're gonna get a fair amount of silt from your drain spigot if you don't drain regularly, so be prepared to drive that out.

If you do the candle thing, use stainless steel or cast iron pans for more efficient heating.
