What is the deal with all these nasty people in the photography community? Are they jealous, insecure or just think they are Gods gift to man?

I forgot to ask in the video: Why do you think the culture of Instagram promotes positivity unlike with YouTube and photography blogs like Petapixel?

It’s mostly jealousy. The ego doesn’t like to see others succeed more than ourselves. It takes an active effort to get over it, and not everyone wants to, so it feels easier to attack.

I came across it a lot when i was working professionally in ireland. A lot of creatives are hostile towards you from the get-go because of their own insecurities and the fear of you “stealing their clients” I feel like a lot of us are very insecure in our own work and some people find a release in putting others down. It makes them feel better about themselves and their work.

People are drawn to negativity because it is so much easier than being positive.

I never answer to hate and neither do i spread it on my channel. I've seen a lot of people doing videos about "Why i hate this" or "Why i hate that" and it's basically just because it is easier to spew negative words then about something rather than saying what someone or something is good at.

Keep doing what you're doing!

It may surprise you hhow many person wanna be with you. Sometimes they hate on you and when they meet you in person they just wanna be you, they cant believe how real and calm you are.

I think brand loyalty is one part of the problem.

As a music artist and a person who is good with the camera as well as from Chicago, trust me I know exactly what you mean, but ive learned that eventually people who are supposed to be in your favor will happen regardless vs the egomaniac person who hates on you can never be pleased regardless

Most of the YouTube videos that do well don't have to do with photography tips, they have to do with gear reviews.
My guess is when someone invests thousands in a certain brand, they want to hear their choice validated from other peoples reviews. The hate comes when a YT video doesn't like their brand they are invested in. Just a guess.

Wow that was deep one man, I think appreciate and learn from anyone that is doing a good job. We can all learn something from one another and that comes by encouragement not hating or feeling intimidated by others success.

I'm from the vaping community and the trolling in unreal. It all comes down to Jealousy. Great video brother and learn to ignore the trolls.

I've come across it a few times in my short journey in the community. For me it's a big detriment to me interacting with most of you guys. I try to stay positive and learn from what you all are teaching! Thanks for all the work you do as usual, I appreciate it!

I agree with the insecure part. If we all helped one another it would make the photography community more united.

Hey manny, I know what you mean. I’m from Chicago and dabble with photography and I’ve been absent since January from Instagram. Just need a little break from social media in general. One of the many reasons I feel there’s so much negativity is people can get jealous of your work. Also, giving away “secret locations” is like the ultimate sin in photography, almost as bad a stealing someone’s photo. I also think it’s pure insecurity OR ego that makes a person true light shine. It is like a pissing contest too in who has the most likes/followers. Just keep doing what you’re doing, great post!

Gandhi once said, I love Christ but i do not love Christians. Same with photography, I Love photography, but I do not love photographers. hopefully we can change that and help each other, build each other and be happy for the success of others photographers.

From getting engaged, to married, to having my first daughter, growing my photography knowledge and skill faster than others and more...I have seen this over and over and over. Jealousy is an ugly thing and so many were raised to constantly compare themselves to others.

I like your work!
