Where Will the Photographer Community Go?

With Instagram changing it's primary focus from photography to short form video it has really limited the growth potential for photographers. Some photographers are seeing huge declines and this could lead to a mass exodus of photographers to another platform. Instagram had taken the photography community crown from Flickr but now has Instagram's reign come to a close too? If so what's next for the photograph community? Let me know what you think in the comments below. What do you think will happen next?

What are your thoughts where do you think the photography community will go? Will everyone just stay on Instagram or is there another social media app that has potential?

Ok so Peter Mckinon has set the ball rolling for Vero! Started an account yesterday myself!

I'm with you. Over the past few years Instagram shows too many ads and "Stories" (short videos), and not enough photos - which made it less enjoyable to use IMO. It also got diluted with tons of random lifestyle pics because it's not really a photographer-centric audience, but a general-everybody audience.

I'd love to find and use a photographer-targeted app to share and learn photography so I'll give Vero a try!

I agree with you, mate. Finding Facebook and Instagram are full of ads, and just it's getting boarding as I don't see people's content. I also signed up to Vero after watching Peter's video to have a look around. One of the things I like with Vero is that if you do a Panoramic shot, you can view it as a full screenshot, which makes you appreciate the photo more. I think

After doing the rounds I’m back on Flickr again.

I'm old enough at 80 to have seen lots of tech companies shoot themselves in the foot when they've decided, "We know better than our users." It's a slow-acting disease that is ultimately fatal. I'd love to get off of SmugMug/Flickr because I heartily disagree with some recent policy changes. That said, the Flickr model has been useful for me, namely for subscribing to people I like and whose photos I like, and for deep browsing to compare those indefinable features that make certain lenses and camera sensors magical. Like if I search for portraits shot with the Canon EOS 6d and the 135/2. Or if I want to find out if a certain tele zoom has the microcontrast and color depth to make good portraits. Sadly, I won't give Flickr any of my money because of its recent policies. (Which I don't care to discuss, so please don't ask me.)

My issue with Instagram is that I'm essentially dependent on it for my work and not for my sharing-ability.
I can share my photos anywhere I want, yeah, but I'm a portrait and boudoir photographer and I'm not selling prints. I'm selling my photoshoots.
Being in an app geared towards sharing amongst a community is amazing, but it won't get me paid unless I start preying on other photographers and photo enthusiasts by selling courses or prints or whatever...
I need regular people, and that's why I can't leave instagram. Not right now.
I oughta try using twitter, though, and I tried doing tiktok, but I'm really not keen on having a video presence besides the videos i make from the shoot (which is way less content than the app demands, in a way)
I just feel like I'm gonna be falling behind if I don't put myself out there and start doing more random and trendy videos...
But I'm rambling, now...

t's unfair that short video gets more attention than photographers. Instagram, youtube shorts become more like TikTok

I've been playing with flikr again and maybe others. If your going to be forced to make videos on IG your better off on a platform where you can monetize

I joined VERO a while back after I saw PM’s video. Not too active on it so far. 🤷🏼‍♂️ As for IG, I used to think I “needed” a bazillion followers when I first started getting serious about my work. But I never figured out how IG works so I stopped trying. I don’t post to IG nearly as often as I once did.
