How to remove a broken bolt 4 different ways!

preview_player
Показать описание
This video shows how to remove a broken bolt using 4 different methods-

1. Knocking the bolt round in an anti-clockwise direction with a chisel or centre punch.
2. Welding on a nut.
3. Drilling a hole and using a easy out/screw extractor.
4. Left handed drill bit.

Removing broken bolts can be challenging but in most cases the job can be done quickly and efficiently. The worst case scenario is that you have to drill the bolt out completely and re-tap the hole or use a thread insert kit.

Excellent vid, very thorough and informative. Now to apply one of those techniques under a car with 2 inches of clearance...

Thank you, Thank you so much! I used oil penetration, Heat, and the chisel and hammer techniques. Didn't go. Went out and bought 40$ worth of other tools to try to get it out only to find out In all that process I was able to loosen it with your given techniques. Took that puppy out with some needle nose and tomorrow I'll return those tools and get my money back. Thanks a bunch and God bless you!

Terrific video, thank you. I respect the years of experience that you have collected and your ability to summarize your techniques efficiently. You are a master at both arts.

I watched this video a few weeks ago and have since watched a lot of your videos because they're EXCELLENT. I needed to removE about 40 screws today that had been there for nearly 50 years. No surprise, at least 10 were having none of it and refused to budge. I remembered this video and used a screw driver and hammer instead of a chisel and every one of them behaved and we're removed. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. THANK YOU ULTIMATE HANDYMAN ;-)

Best video I've found in the last few days. I snapped a bolt off my water pump housing the other day & been dreading to get the bolt out. I'll be back to give an update. Thanks once again

In my opinion this is one of the most informative and instructional video I have yet to see, and that is speaking in regard to any topic of instructional video.
Well Done.
I have a broken bolt in a crankshaft, been soaking and heating and using the chisel technique so far 3 weeks into it and still have had no new progress will try the welding nut on next.

Great tips. As a young lad I often used a hammer and chisel method to get old screws and bolts out however being young I didn't own a chisel so used my old mans screwdriver. I've since had to retire them screwdrivers but keep the battered old screwdriver in my toolbox for inspiration. Always brings a smile to my face when I'm cursing at some stubborn bolt!

I used the method of welding a nut to a broken stud after watching this yesterday. Thank for going to the effort of making the videos, they’re really helpful. My welding is poor, but I found that turning the nut immediately after welding whilst still red hot. This helped stop the nut shearing off. It took me a few nuts being sheared before I managed to extract the remaining screw thread fully but it works.

2 in the morning here in CA, been doing heavy work on my car for two days. Get to the last item to install.. Bam, broke a small bolt!
I've never done it, until now. Dog tired in the wee small hours and you saved me! It was the wd40 chisel method. Thank you!

You may already know this. But some of your viewers may not. I recently experienced a broken hardened bolt, and WD40 failed to loosen it. I heard about a home made penetrating oil, and thought I'd give it a try. Mix automatic transmission fluid and acetone in equal parts, shake well and apply. The ATF has a high viscosity, and the acetone increases it even further. And the acetone helps to dissolve the rust. I let it sit for about a day, and it came right out. I hope this helps someone.

The chisel method with WD-40 worked for me after a bolt snapped in my motorcycle and left all the oil spilling out. Felt great to be able to handle it on my own. Thank you for this!!!

Thank you!!! The WD 40 + chisel trick helped save me the cost and bother of drilling out the bolt or replacing the plate it was stuck in. Works like a charm!

I've been a spanner swinger for lots of years and I've never heard of the X-tractalloy electrodes. Also, I'm having some of those spring punches! Thanks for the tips, great vid as always.
