Please the one who said “I said we can’t use the block, please listen to what I’m saying”
The materials cube, flat and rod are used in the exercise book when modeling. Since the size of the block can’t be drawn in an easy to like the rest we don’t use it when modeling in out exercise book. If you look in the textbook you’ll see that it was used to model and will see how big it is. Note that the lesson taught are how it is answered in an exercise book. The textbook give you a picture on how to use the block but the block can’t be used in exercise books when modeling

I'm not saying we cannot represent anything by any quantity but we must tread cautiously and explain the condition under which we are working before we apply the multi-base block.

I don't know when we start using 1 cube to represent 1, 000. It is obvious that all these are in the name of bigger numbers. My question is how will you use the multi-base block to model 7, 864, 795. It is big number and I know you can get the 7 million, the 800, 000, 64, 000 but how are you going to get the 795.
One thing we must know is that, teaching learning materials are not calculators. They cannot be used to solve every mathematics problem but they can help you to get the conceptual understanding of the subject matter. So, the earlier we see this the better it will be for our pupils and education, most especially, mathematics.
It seems attention on the use of multi-base block is now shifted to big numbers in 1000s only but not to develop the concept of numbers which I don't agree with the inventors.
We should bear in mind that, teaching learning materials are to develop conceptual understanding and ones the concept is develop, the child can pick it up and do any computation no matter how big the number is.

Please note that the values of the multi-base materials are NOT fixed.
They can be changed at any time and used to represent any number that has no more than 4 significant figures.

Also, the kids can easily draw cubes just as you did on the board to represent the blocks.
