This is a video where I go over one of my discrete math books. This is a fairly solid book and while it is not perfect, I do think it is a good book for learning discrete mathematics. I hope this helps someone:)

I just took my discrete math final yesterday. I was the only math major in the entire class, everyone else being computer science majors, but I am super glad I took the course! Challenging but quite rewarding, plus, it was my first step outside the usual "calculus track" of mathematics, and I got to see some really interesting topics.

I love these types of videos where you recommend math books for different subjects in math! I recently got both Calculus Made Easy by Silvanus Thompson and A First Course in Calculus by Serge Lang after I had to withdraw from my Calculus 1 course last semester because I was failing with really low marks and both books have been super helpful! Hoping that when I retake Calc 1 next semester that it'll go a lot better. Thanks for making these great book recommendations!

I recently started working through Susanna Epp's Discrete Math book by myself, and I'm still on chapter 2. Would you recommend switching to this book?

I covered 3 major chapters from Kenneth Rosen 7e: Logic, Sets, Graph Theory. I have the ability to skip around like this because I'm not learning in academia, just taking tools as needed. Regardless, this book seems worth checking out.

Thanks a bunch, your math book recommendations are just awesome. Currently working through Pinter "A Book of Abstract Algebra" (my new favourite book!) and "Mathematical Proofs: A Transition to Advanced Mathematics" (reeally great), I think both were recommendations of yours, I can't thank you enough. Just ordered this one, too :D

I watched this entire video attentively, and I would like a cookie now. Yes, it's possible to end up with two copies in whatever edition with a few inadvertent unchecked clicks of a button, possibly in inebriated or underslept state of brain. Not relating personally to the experience, but not judging either. Yes, also, probably at least 70% of math book owners have at this point applied at least one layer of duct tape to preserve the wholeness of their repeatedly reviewed and annotated books. In fact, math textbook annotating is my love language, and whoever consumes these books carefully opening them to no more than 89.9 degrees, never having a pen in the vicinity, or dear God forbid, any liquids or food substances, is suspect as a deviant psycho in my book, no pun intended. I happen to know one such person in fact, and my suspicion is confirmed by this case. Cool presentation, and I believe I speak for a very small village of math nerds as well. My discrete math book was expunged from a bookstore down the street of my first big city life walk-up studio. I have only shown the first 3 chapters my devotion so far.

Look at that Gnarly cover. 3 great authors of multiple math books. Add with it, solutions. Looks like a nice math foundations text.

Ive seen different textbooks start chapter 1 with either Propositional Logic or Sets. There doesnt seem to be any consensus on which is more important to start with. Why is that?

How does this compare with the Discrete Math w/ Applications book by Susan E. Epp? I'm still fairly early in the book.

I have a question, if i dont take math in college, is it possible to finish all math with just self study?

They used this at my school. It's not a fresh memory, but iirc, it still needs a teacher to expound the finer points. You could probably still pick up a few things even if you don't happen to be lucky enough to have one that doesn't mind teaching.

I’m on a HS school board would you recommend a discrete mathematics class for HS students. We’re located in Silicon Valley. Ironically I watched your video in the morning and received the sixth edition in the mail in the afternoon. Some changes were made such as added sections, middle chapters rearranged, cryptography was added to the last chapter and coding exercises were given in an appendix. Can you review the books by Lovasz and (Graham and Knuth).

Why not just download it from the internet?

Do I need any mathematical background to understand this book?
