Ncmpcpp: The Best MPD Client With The Worst Name

I picked a good place to start with MPD client, I think it's fair to say that ncmpcpp might be one of the best mpd clients that exist, I'll be trying out other but I don't know how anything will top this one.

What a great video! You are lovely to listen to, you speak beautifully and clearly. And I love your colours in your config. Did you upload your config to git? I couldn’t find it.

By the way, do you know if it’s possible to configure the “highlighting” on a currently selected song to have just one background colour, instead of different background based on what’s on the foreground?

Also, do you know if play counts can be seen in some way?

So it's all great, I spent 1.5 hours installing and configuring mpd, mpc, ncmpcpp and I still have no idea how to play a music file. ncmpcpp is empty, there is no help for the commands (just tried pressing ?, h, :h) - reading man pages that are not helpful.
I wish things would just work in Linux instead everything being a sysadmin type of exercise.

One of the most frustrating problems with this actually falls outside of mpd/ncmpcpp. On Ubuntu the Gnome Desktop will spawn its own Pulseaudio service. Mpd running as local user will not have permission to access Pulse when this happens. The user also cannot start their own instance of Pulse because it's already running. You have to kill pulse and restart it manually every time you log in. If everything looks right but it still won't work, and restarting Pulse fixes it then this is probably what the issue is. This is one of the reasons I left Ubuntu. I have not seen it on Arch and have also not seen it on Debian.

Once it's working and once you get used to the controls it's one of the best music players there is. I have it on my desktop, my home theater PC and a raspberry pi white noise machine.

My problem with ncmpcpp is it didn't show songs from any other directory other than ~/Music. Especially not from fuse directory.
And since I newly install larbs nothing shows now not even from ~/music Directory.

Ok I finally got mpd working it spits out some wierd error but it works ncmpcpp now works using your config file but there's no colors outside of the playlist so when i'm in file view mode its black text on a black background and the selected item is highlighted blue any idea what i need to edit in my config file, I hate to ask but its taken me hours to get to this point and I don't want to start digging incase I break something and get the dreaded ncmpcpp connection refused error so would really appreciate your help

I know it's a bit tricky thing, because by default alacritty has a bad image rendering.
