D1 changed my life. At the time of its release I was an opiod addict and just beginning my path to cleaning myself up. I had so much idle time and needed something to take my mind off of drugs. I picked this game up and immersed myself in it. Id play 10+ hours a day. It gave me something to keep my mind occupied and actually be something I enjoyed. I remember the long hours at night and have this wonderful game to thank for helping me get thru. Ive been sober for a little over 9 years now. I will forever love this game and the community at large!

Vanilla D1 through TTK was peak gaming in my adult life. The only thing that has compared to the games of my childhood. D2 just changed so much and I never got that feeling back.

My favorite line from Dinklebot was during your first mission on the Moon:

"WE'VE AWOKEN THE HIVE!"

I don’t usually comment on videos, but the dad-joke level mastery of transitioning from an auto rifle into the sponsored segment actually made my eyes roll so far back in my head that I can see yesterday.

Kids these days don't remember when Rahool used to turn purple engrams into blue ones 🤣

I'm surprised there was no mention of Randall the Vandal. The guy that level 8 guardians in the Beta tried to team up to kill him with uncommon weapons, but end up getting their butts kicked. Not to mention Bungie actually added him INTO THE LORE and in game in the Wrath of The Machine raid server room section as a Siva-infected version of him. Which his name displayed "Rahndel, the Perfected".

The background music is enough to make me tear up. I got the Destiny ps4 (all white) and that game holds some of my favorite gaming memories of all time. From getting the Vex on my first VoG run, to my little brother pulling the Hawkmoon after a random crucible match (crazy luck I know). I’ll never forget the joy and frustrations this game brought. It’s sad to think how far removed we are from this. I miss it so much.

D1 was so great, i played literally every day and never took a break. There was always something you needed to do.

Good times...

That idle orbit music hits differently. For me, it is reminiscent of friends come and gone, those who passed away, or just left your life indifferently without notice.

It stings because that music reminds me of having so many laughs with those guys. I even moved to Europe to meet some of them and start a new chapter.

I still appreciate what happened when it did.

God i miss D1. "Kids today will never know" is the most common thought that runs through my head while playing Destiny. D1 was completely unforgiving

I will never forget my first crucible match with a vex on the enemy team

I was playing crucible with a friend in year one and I was pretty new to the game. My friend who play a few months at that time decided we should go into the crucible match and we stuck together most of the time. We watched a team mate turn turn the corner and the dude got melted. The gun shots were something I never heard. My friend screams “run run” I’m like “huh” so we start running away and he goes “when you hear that sound you run. That dude was using the vex mythoclast” I ran into him later and I blinked and I died. That started my obsession with the vex

Another thing people seem to forget is that we didn’t always have rally banners for super and ammo. Sometimes we had to do “ammo” runs or wait the full 5 minutes to start encounters with full super. Intellect stat and Orpheus rig nightstakers were way more important then to make sure everyone had supers when we needed them. It’s a lot easier to get supers now.

As someone who played the open beta of D1, guys lemme tell you like an old man of how proud i felt when me as a solo player first completed a raid. Like bruh this was a moment of my life.

My father and I both played since the beta for d1, I remember going to Taco Bell and getting a promotional cup for d1 and from that moment I was hooked. From farming mats, strikes, public events, grimoire farming, raids, friends, trials, iron banana and much much more. We played d2 all the way up to witch queen and my fathers health got progressively worse landing him in the hospital on a ventilator, his condition got progressively worse and we lost him this past year. You never know when you’re gonna loose the people closest to you be it a friend, an acquaintance, party member, or father. Just enjoy the time you have left with the people you love and express it while we have the ability to. ❤️

D1 will forever have a special place in my heart for the memories and friends I made trying to find randoms that would let me join them for raids since I couldn’t afford a mic

I remember the touch of malice quest in D1. Doing kings fall, finding the calcified fragments in the raid. Such a cool quest

The original loading screen and music just touches my heart every time I hear it. Such a simple time where everything was still being discovered
