It is the month of November
a time to pause and remember.
I flash back to the brave who have fallen,
and can almost hear the soldiers calling.
As I touch the soft grass on the field,
I think of the strength they had to wield.
The weapons they carried through thick and through thin,
now whispers of honor, as heaven calls in.

On November 11, we gather as one.
With poppies on our hearts, as bright as the sun.
They fought through the shadows, their courage ablaze.
Now we stand in silence, lost in a haze.
The world holds its breath as memories weave.
In that stillness we mourn, and think about what we believe.


The knock on the door feels like drowning in cold water.
The 19 year old must fight, no time to ponder.
The wives wonder if their love will last until tomorrow,
while mothers carry the unspoken weight of sorrow.
He dreams of a future, with stories untold.
With that in his mind, his heart suddenly grows bold.
He stumbles, his grip tight on his gun.
Now his white cross shines bright in the sun.


We say we will remember every courageous soul who has fallen.
But yet people still die as the drums of war are calling.
War overshadows love in our world’s fraction.
We remember, but will we put our lessons into action?
Why does war have to happen?
The world would heal if peace was our captain.
