Repotting New Phalaenopsis Orchids! My Repotting Routine + Organic vs Inorganic Media Comparison!

Hi everyone, I'm Annabel, and welcome to my channel! :-)

In this video we’re going to be repotting two new complex hybrid mini Phalaenopsis that I purchased today.

I usually repot straight into LECA in Semi-hydro or self-watering, but thought it would be a good idea to also do an example repot in an organic media mix that works in my environment, since many people prefer organic media (I like adding sphagnum when I use bark, since it makes sure the moisture in the mix is distributed evenly- I have a warmer environment so this works well for me). This way we can do a side-by-side comparison of the two growing methods for my environment, and I will post updates on progress :-)
There is no single way to grow any orchid, it’s just finding what works best for you!

Interesting comparison, I’ve found also that the time of year affects the success of transition, but starting with a healthy root system helps, often there’s a sponge mini pot at the centre just under the stem and if it’s left to long in that it causes root and stem rot before you even get it home, I always repot phals immediately for that reason, I do use Leca but more for Oncydium alliance so I’ll be interested to see your results. Love your videos by the way

Still a beginner, but I am learning so much as I work my way through your great videos, Annabel.
I would really like some advice on choosing a pot for a new Phalaenopsis.
How do you judge the size of container (i.e. height and width). Also - does it make a difference if it is glass or plastic?
thanks again.

Hi. Beautiful phals. How do you make the extra holes in the plastic pots?

Hi there... thanks for the video. It's been a year now in the two different media. Did you do an update video for these plants. I'm trying to decide between leca or bark mix for my own new orchid.... just a beginner... lol.

New to phal orchids ( well plants in general). Fo you use fertilizer spray? If so do you spray everywhere or only root area? I was told not to get the stem or leaves wet.

I am very interested in trying your method of potting Phalaenopsis in leca. My first order of leca has arrived and I am confused by all the differing information on various pre-treatments. Would you mind advising whether you pre-treat your leca before using it for your orchids. I am sorry if this is a bit basic, but I am a total beginner.

Very interesting - thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😊 I hope to see a follow-up video to see how they are doing in their different media.
