I worked at GameStop for a few years during my undergrad and before the OLED the lite used to sell REALLY well. Just had a lot of parents of younger kids come in and didn’t want the commitment of a $300 device that was more complicated and fragile. And the amount of attempted Lites that were traded in just completely fucked and obviously manhandled by a child under 10 was crazy

Seeing Scott's reflection on the screen's glare was like seeing behind the curtains into the Wizard of Oz's control room.

THIS IS THE CONSOLE SCOTT ALWAYS WANTED!
- it's wedge shaped
- it's 2D only
- it's f*ck'n yellow

Busy dad who enjoys casual gaming here, the switch lite is perfect for me. On the days where I need to be in the office, I bring it along, on the nights where my young children won't stay in bed I bring it out and play on the rocking chair in the hallway while I play hall police, and when I travel you know it comes out on the plane. I honestly would prefer a few inches off the screen to somehow make it pocket-able. But at this season in my life, TV mode is just not possible. I would have also enjoyed this device as a youth, because I had a large family and never had access to the family room TV. So perhaps I also have a bias for handhelds.

My perspective on “lite” consoles is that they will always be a console that allows a less fortunate kid to be able to experience games. That $100 is a big difference to a lot of parents and without it, I would never have gotten my first DS years ago

My biggest gripe with the Switch Lite isn’t that it can’t be docked or connected to the TV, but simply because IT’S MISSING HD RUMBLE. There are countless games that I can think of that have such nuanced rumbles built into them that just increases the immersion so much more. Loved the console, but eventually sold it in favour for an OLED just to have the rumble back .

My aunt lives with us and loves playing animal crossing on our switch. She's moving away so we got her an animal crossing-themed switch lite, she was absolutely ecstatic!

My sister has 3 sons, and she got them each a Switch Lite for Christmas this year. Now, the normal Switch they already had is the "family" Switch that they use for multiplayer games in docked mode, and my nephews can play what they want when they want on their Lites (which apparently mostly means lots of Fortnite).

Scott proposing with a Nintendo Switch Lite just seems like a Scott thing to do, both in and out of universe.

My friends got me a Switch Lite for my 21st birthday this past year and it’s one of the greatest gifts i’ve gotten. The switch lite is the perfect size and feel for a handheld imo and i love mine so much. The most annoying part is just that you have to make it your primary switch so you have access to all your safe data/games at all time. Now when im at home playing my regular switch it is constantly having to update the save data or “check if software can be played”

I love that the switch lite exists, but I agree with your statement that it's been really overshadowed by the original switch. When you're given the option to pay $100 more for the ability to connect to a TV, it almost feels like you're missing out by not spending the extra money. I would have loved if Nintendo allowed people to plug the switch lite in to a TV using a USB-C to HDMI connection or sold an aftermarket dock, but unfortunately that's just functionality that you can never get back after the initial purchase.

Switch Lite owner here. Only reason I got it was because by the time I fixed my life, got a good job and could afford it the year was 2020 and during COVID there were no regular switches at the time anywhere. Good times playing Smash Ultimate hunched over on my bed breaking my back and playing with a Pro Controller squinting at the screen.

Having an 'airport Switch' is definitely one of the most American things I've ever heard in my life

😊This little device was my best buddy during the harshest first few months of the Pandemic together with Animal Crossing, being stuck at the hospital on call due to lack of manpower, helping out the tired staff and doing my job in helping to fast track the recovery of the people struck with the big bad Covid.
It kept my sanity in check, my safe haven from all the rumble tumble outside my personal room.

I just want to say that the Switch Lite is easily one of the most comfortable devices I've ever held in my hand. I was able to play for hours with no pain. I really have to say it definitely is the most ergonomic Switch that Nintendo has ever released. Also, it's D-Pad is second to none

South East Asian here, its pretty much a go to between this and oled. Most people here live a workers life so playing on the go is a really huge sell.

It really depends on the need tbh. As a traveller between 5-6 days out of the week, the lite is really comfy gaming on the go and biggest plus for me personally and I'd imagine most of the people I know says the same thing

The switch lite was really great for me as a way to play switch games for a student with very little income. I got one used for $100 on a secondhand marketplace and it let me play the games I was really excited about that I otherwise probably wouldn't have been able to experience

I have worked at GameStop on and off for almost 4 years now because I'm in college and honestly I sell a lot of switch lite consoles around the holidays. I will say, part of this is because I usually tell people if they are getting it for someone who is younger, I recommend the lite because of the fact it can't get broken as easily. With the original switch, there are so many ways it can get broken just by taking off the controllers alone so I always recommend the lite for younger people.

I work in the electronics department at target and believe or not the lite does get customers. Obviously it's not as much as the normal switch but I would say it's a roughly 70:30 ratio. But the system definitely has a place for some people, glad you made this video 😁.

One of my best friends uses a switch lite when he gets sent out on military tour. It’s very relaxing for him and portable gaming at this small size is useful. It gave me more perspective on the device because of him.
