Shocking Twist in Georgia Nursing Student Laken Riley's Murder Trial

The trial for Jose Ibarra, the undocumented migrant accused of murdering nursing student Laken Riley in Georgia, is scheduled to begin this week. On the eve of the trial, the district attorney announced that Ibarra was opting for a bench trial — rather than a jury trial. The move has left legal observers scratching their heads. Ibarra has pleaded not guilty. Customs officials have said he was in the country illegally. Laken lived 5 mins from me, and her parents went to our church. I can’t begin to explain the amount of devastation this senseless killing caused in our area. The support was and is very strong, but this could’ve and should’ve easily been prevented.

I'm amazed that I am still surprised what people do to each other. I'm 70 years old and still working as an RN. I wish I had the opportunity to orient this student into her nursing career so she could take over when I retire. So sorry for her loss, many patients she will never get to be a nurse to will be missing out by her absence.

He killed an American, and I don't understand why the Prosecution didn't put the DP on the table from the start. I trust they have their reasons. He came here illegally, murdered a citizen and it makes me so angry to know that we have to support him in prison during his incarceration. Prison justice is tough, though, so I hear (never been there, myself). May his time there be as terrorizing, brutal, sick, and depraved as he did to Laken.
