This video is designed for beginner soap makers. When I first started making soap I had learned how to make soap from a book. It was common understanding back then to have to use a thermometer. It was almost soap making suicide not to. I am not sure who developed this heat process method, but it is a go to for me. No thermometer is necessary and it’s fast and easy.

If you are so new to soap that you are not familiar with recipes or don’t even know where to find one, you can visit my blog below (it’s very short) for a recipe I have used often. Susan Miller Cavitch wrote a great book called, “The Natural Soap Book” you can find on Amazon or likely at your local library. You can also go to an online soap calculator and plug in the numbers below. I prefer the lye calculator on Bramble Berry’s website. It’s easy to use, doesn’t require any fancy terminology, and the soap recipe it spits out is usually pretty awesome. Your oil choices can make a big difference so I have included some percentages below.

It’s important to research your oils for your recipe. Every oil has a different saponification value and they all behave differently in the final bar. I have found that a recipe with 30% coconut oil, mixed with 20% of another hard oil (I use sustainably sourced palm oil) and 50% olive oil is one of the best combinations for suds. Another mix that is great for suds is similar to above, only go with 45% olive oil and add 5% castor oil. Adding a tablespoon of sugar to your water before you mix in the lye can also add a lot of sud action, but in my experience this leaves a bit of a film on your skin when you rinse. It’s a very small amount and ba

Looks so easy to make for beginners truly, but what about lye measurements and why do need to put it in oven after the whole process?
