Finland to restrict entry from Russia as Russians flee

Russia is stepping up the mobilisation of army reservists as Ukraine's counteroffensive continues. This is pushing some Russians to try to flee the country. But crossing easily into Finland in the east may not be an option as Helsinki plans to make it more difficult for Russians to enter the country.
Al Jazeera's Paul Rhys reports from Vaalimaa near the Finland-Russia border.

The new restriction was announced in Finland on September 23. A tourist cannot cross the border without an acceptable reason for an exception. Allowed reasons: Relative, Family, Student, Work or The owner of the house. Normal transport traffic is allowed to cross the border. The rules may change in the coming days. Part ownership of the house is no longer enough. Must be the right owner.

Many of them were passive, said that they don't care about politics, it's not up to them and so on. Now they can't be so passive anymore. It seems to me that the more you ignore the problems, the more difficult it is to solve them later on.

Is it not better to make it as easy as possible for Russians to flee the war now, rather than let them to get drafted into fighting? Facilitating their surrender BEFORE they pick up a gun could make a huge difference to the outcome of the war.

I can understand Finland being cautious about who they let in. You don't know who is a Russian sympathiser, or is under pressure/forcerd to spy for Russia!
