The safety of participants is a priority for those involved in running trials. This film explores some of the mechanisms in place to ensure that trials keep participants safe, and are successful.

The Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit (MRC CTU) at UCL is at the forefront of resolving internationally important questions in infectious diseases and #cancer, and delivering swifter and more effective translation of scientific #research into patient benefits. It does this by carrying out challenging and innovative studies, and developing and implementing methodological advances in study design, conduct and analysis.

The CTU designs and conducts innovative and challenging #clinicaltrials. It brings together the results of a number of trials which look at the same illness or condition (this is called a systematic review or meta-analysis). It also undertakes observational studies to evaluate the impact of new interventions in routine care.

The CTU's Focus is on internationally important questions, through challenging and innovative studies, concentrating on infectious diseases and cancer. It carries out methodological research to help improve how studies are designed, conducted and analysed. This innovation is inspired by challenges faced by our studies, and helps ensure scientific progress is translated into clinical benefit more rapidly and effectively.
