The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rejected allegations that the Gulf state lobbied to influence the outcome of the 2016 US presidential election.

UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, says contact with Donald Trump's campaign team was to facilitate understanding of his foreign policy positions.

An Associated Press investigation alleges that two American businessmen subsequently secretly pushed US President Trump to support Saudi Arabia and the UAE in its blockade on Qatar.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane has the latest from Washington.
