I would have liked to see what the original photos looked like, to know how close to life each camera printed as well as the comparison to each other.

I've always wondered how these small print devices behave and your review was so useful to clear up some of the many questions I had about them. Another great review of yours. Thank you, Gordon, and keep it up 👍

I like the Canon better in this case. The Fuji is punchier with more contrast, but you can simply add more contrast to the picture before you print it with the Canon, and you won't be left guessing if your highlights will clip.

Thanks for the review. I was originally interested in the Zink paper printers (like Hp Sprocket), but saw that the Canon Selphy makes the claim of being “100 year pictures”, by which I guess they will last 100 years, whereas the zink photo printers don’t.

I don’t want to take photos and then find them blank a few years later when I go to look for them!! I like both printers. Interestingly, the Fujifilm Instax camera which I’ve got, takes photos that look nothing like the real thing.. a huge amount of contrasts etc. But here the Fujifilm prints look a lot more like real life than I’d expect!

I figure someone would be happy with either printer but I found overall I liked the results from the Selphy more. Mainly I didn't like how reflective the Instax images were. Kind of feels like you'd have to dance around the image to see it properly, whereas the Selphy would be easier to see. But the Instax app is definitely the more appealing of the two.
As is typical with such things, I feel the "best" option would be a merging of the two!

Spot on review as always. Now there is an update on Canon software. It recognises folders on your phone. I've got the Canon due to its image quality. For scrapbookers, the adhesive won't hold on on paper. That's why I returned it.

Still hoping for an SP-4 Instax wide printer.

I've decided I'll go with the Canon QX10. The quality looks promising! Also looking for the adhesive backpaper. Thanks for the review!!

Thanks. I dont know if it was already pointed out but at 5:26, you can change the photo. You just tap the photo and it brings up more options, one of which allows you to reposition the photo. I need to get one of these as Ive put my Instax gear on the shelf for now. Really enjoying the Canon and Kodak instant film cameras and dye sub printers, way cheaper to shoot than Instax too.

8:55 WOW, that's a bit of a difference.

For someone that shoots Fujifilm, the instant print function of the Instax SP-3 is a big selling point. You can print right off the camera including cropping without first transferring them to your phone.

Best detailed review of this Canon printer on youtube. Thank you for that!

I may have missed this mention, but its worth pointing out that you can print directly to the Instax from a Fuji compatible camera (i.e. X100f, etc) without need for the app.

I placed my order for the Instax sp-3. I love the idea of fully having the freedom to shoot something in RAW on my phone and then edit it nicely before getting the fiscal print. I'm just a photography hobbyist but I'm excited to be able to take the printer on trips and be able to create permanent keepsakes while I'm at it. The Canon printer looks nice but the idea of having to replace the ink sounds like a hassle. With the Instax you get that nice matte border around the printed photo which truly gives it that original Polaroid feel which in turn makes it look and feel more expensive. Also, the Instax printer shares the same film as the Original Square Instax cameras meaning the based on supply and demand that technology isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I look forward to saving up for a nice Fujifilm camera down the road and being able to pair it directly with the printer.

Great review. I owned the original Kodak version (suspiciously similar to the Canon but not interchangeable) and when Kodak end of life the product, I bought the Selphy CP910. No need for the battery-operated one here. These prints are very expensive compared to local shops but as the photo biz continues to slow down not sure how the photo printing will be priced. Thank you for your excellent review.

Though the Fuji one seems to have better quality photos, I like that the Canon one uses sticker paper, very ideal for journaling! Aside from photos, you could probably use it to design stickers as well (even if it’s not the most cost effective, it’s at least convenient).
