Like you can use heat to expand something going over a shaft, you can use anti-heat to shrink something going into a hole.

I have used dry ice to install bearings on a ZF transmission. Definitely helped. Preheating the Aluminum case helped too.

We tried to do something kind of like this and discovered that cryotreating whatever fancy steel we were using INCREASED the size. We needed to regrind the OD after a couple cold/room temp cycles. Some sort of grain structure business. Sorry i can't be more specific, this was a while ago. But it was WILD.

Interesting fact when talking about nitrogen, being in the hydraulic industry we use accumulators filled with nitrogen I dropped a large accumulator in a factory (have to vent on a die-cast machine ) one day and noticed everyone got real angry, had the opportunity to talk to a scientist about this and he told me that I potentially lowered the oxygen content in the space we were in and everyone one dementia changed because of that seen this a number of times

Speed and violence of action! that race was moving quick! haha good work im impressed with that liquid nitrogen. Ive been using the lunchroom freezer for my big trailer races, that looks a whole lot easier!

how long does the bottle of Nitrogen last in bottle if unused?

The 500 has no doubt been lost for a race, or more accurately lack thereof.

Don't this will probably also get better life out of the race. You've transformed any retained austenite in the race into martensite.

We went to putting dry cylinder sleeves in this way, it works great. Liquid propane works too, it's not as cold and a wee bit more dangerous lol.

Shouldn't a face shield be worn also?

You can substitute dry ice and alcohol for a similar cold of liquid nitrogen.

First i was like, oh, right. Alaska. everything's expensive because of transport. Then i was like, wait, nobody transports liquid nitrogen like that, it's too easy to make and it evaporates quickly. And every city of note has an air liquefaction plant. A lot of people need purified and/or liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon, etc. So it should only be marginally more expensive because of high cost of living, higher energy costs, Alaskan climate... so where's the cost?
Then I realized. Sure, Alaska has "big" (enough) cities, but not that many and they tend to be far apart and hard to travel too... So it's lack of effective competition. And no one else will make another plant within reasonable range because the moment they come online, prices will drop and supply becomes over saturated then nobody makes money.
